What are you doing to prepare for Florence?

What do you think of the danger from hurricane Florence?  What are you doing to prepare?  I'm fresh here from California and don't know what to think of this. I left earthquake land only to end up in a  hurricane, sheesh!!   Undecided

Water, water and more water. Batteries for flashlights, cash, fill up your car with gas, and any empty gas cans too. If the wind is strong we could experience loss of power for several days due to down power lines. At least you can prepare for a hurricane unlike an earthquake.

I would add keeping a few coolers near by to empty the fridge if you loose power. A quaint southern tradition that arose out of that situation is the hurricane party. Thought process is to eat all the perishable food prior to it going bad. Of course you wouldn’t want that beer to go bad either so......  With a bit of preparation I think you will find it’s no worse than a camping trip this far inland.

Charlotte City Water will not be impacted.  Only way I'd worry about water to drink is if you're on a well and loose power.
On its current track this area should not be too bad as 40 mph gusts shouldn't cause much tree damage.

It might rain for 2+ days and we'll likley see trail erosion or some bridges float away but we'll be fine.

Now in Janurary when Snowmageddon is predicted you best buy all the bread and milk you can find!

Honestly the only thing I've really done is make sure I've got enough cat and dog food. If it looks like it's getting really close later in the week I'll start filling jugs with water and filling the bathtub too. But that's about it. If you are in a rural area or closer to the coast it's a different story but I'm inside the city of Charlotte.

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.

Be sure to by 'low end beer"

Highlife + PBR + Old Mil is just acceptable at room temp if you're prepared for it.

Prepping the chainsaw for the inevitable trail cleanup that will be required afterwards. Not that I normally do a lot of trail work, but it'll be all hands on deck after the storm.

Also, If you have any bike maintenance to do, this weekend would be an ideal time to get it done. I'm planning on doing a brake bleed while i'm stuck inside.

I charged up all my bike lights in case the power goes out. Probably gonna pull the battery out of my car and set it in the garage so I can hot wire a car phone charger in case the power is out for more than a day.

Bring in all items that could blow away (trash cans, patio furniture, etc.)

I rode Sugar one last time as there may be too much damage afterwards and no more trail maintenance.
