Looks as if the Itusi will be close for the rest of the week. It's a shame, would like to get a ride in on Thursday before the Marnier starts. (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Looks like all NC state parks are closed Thursday - Sunday.  It makes sense to me, park's aren't an essential State Service.

With that said I bet there will be a lot of clean up to be done to help re open the trails.  We volunteers will take care of our personal lives first and then will mobilize to clear the trails.  Hopefully we can get you out there with us Douglas.

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.

Sorry to hear.  Perhaps volunteer at your local Red Cross.

The folks at Lake Norman State Park told me that after 5:30 today, the park will be closed until Monday till they get the all clear to open from the state. I noticed that the trail is still listed as open on the homepage. Did they charge their minds, and decided to stay open tomorrow ?

Sorry about the park closure-- Raleigh made the decision to close all parks in the state for public safety and to free up staff.

For the trails-- all trails (except the back side of Laurel) have been walked and "cleared". Shout out to Warren, Will and Jim for stepping up and taking on Monbo, Hawk & Norwood.

I have cut about 12 trees off the 10 + miles I have walked. The trail is drying out nicely-- but areas still have running streams on and down the trail. (A gully off of Fallstown has a 15 ft waterfall-- which might be the highest natural waterfall in the county.) I think the trails should be dry enough in the next couple days.

The trails were and are still littered with debris. Do take caution when we open as limbs and branches may still be on the trails.

Bear with us in  the next coming weeks as staff may be deployed to different areas of the state to help with clean up-- or to relieve local law enforcement.

Shred the road.
