Whats your name FR?

My name is David, and we have met.  I've worked on a few trail days, and will again. Did anyone see my apology?

I did and it's appreciated and accepted.

On that note, I'm surprised I'm just now seeing this post! Shocked

Trails are what they are.  Much of the trails at LNSP suffer from a lot of use over the years.  Some can be attributed to the bi directional nature of the trail as most of the trail, with the exception of Laurel and Wildlife sections, were designed to be ridden in one direction.  This makes some sections that were climbs become fast down hills get a lot of braking wear from less experienced riders.

We are getting ready to do a big restoration project on Hawk, Hicks Creek and Norwood very soon so most, if not all, of the erosion issues will be addressed.

Remember that these looks were built starting in 2002 through 2005 and have seen a bunch of use.

As for roots?  They are what they are.  Fisher has a lot of them but many on the beginner loop have been removed over the years.  If it's an intermediate or advanced loop, I typically leave them unless they cause excessive widening of the trail.  Ride what and where you like and let others do the same.

I only get up there once per year at best because of distance, but I always have preferred the original directions. I thought the annual reversals were originally designed to minimize wear, but if it's not accomplishing that (or making it worse), should the annual change of direction be reconsidered?

I rode Hawk, hicks, norwood and Monbo for a few years before the directions changed. I really liked riding the original layout. I didn't like the new directions, and think they should be one way. I know wildlife was built as a trail with maximum flow, But the odd years are the years that get Maximum flow. There's flow in the even years, but the other is a lot more fun. The current direction of Laural is the most fun. All the arguments that have come out for the trails ,points to the trails being fun for all for years to come. So why not keep that one trail system fun Cheesy

I do think it's funny that FRS tried to treat Enoch like he's some whippersnapper. Lol. Enoch is like the godfather of mountain biking here in Charlotte.

It's a mutual respect kind of thing.

Generally, age is related to ones experience, or not. That might be some wisdom worth considering.

I'll take advantage of how many views a thread about roots will get and put out a shameless plug  Grin

Please send me an email if you would like to join the trail crew at LKN State Park.  I will provide training and introduce you to our existing crew of experienced trail workers.  I'm considering putting together a professionally led one day trail school again this fall and you could be a part of it if you are committed to helping at the park throughout the year.  wwash3rd@gmail

What are the original directions? Just curious. Another thought, although this conversation sounds more along the lines of one direction, is to change directions by day of the week.

Last time I heard anything about Gramps, he was fishing and living in Florida. I miss Gramps also.

If you want to ride rocks and roots, come to Snowshoe and ride Lower Hairball!!

Been there, done that and didn't SS close for the season?  If not they will soon.

I don't mind roots and rocks, not like at Fisher tho, and I like that the trails reverse annually at LKN.

Are you still going to change directions ever year? Who's idea was that anyways?

I have no clue who's idea it was.  And it's not my call so it feels weird that you say "are you".  Speaking of changing directions it's not up to debate so I wouldn't waste any keystrokes on the topic.

300 more thread views since I posted my email address for folks interested in joining the trail crew and still not one email.  I sad  Cry
