New TCs for Francis Beatty

Well, I didn't intend to pass Beatty along quite so soon, but a move to the other side of Matthews and focus on other projects made it a necessity. Eric Keziah and Daniel Honeycutt will be taking over for me at the end of the year (in reality they've been keeping things running for much of this year, as I focused on the pump track and personal projects).

Over the past 3 years, we built another half mile of trail, brought the pump track, built the rock feature, and roughly 412 bridges. But at the same time, the singletrack has gotten a bit rough and beaten up. So we are working with Community Trail Design to develop a plan for improving the trail, with an eye for sustainability and...fun! I'm very excited to see how the trail evolves over the next few years, and am leaving it in hands far more capable than my own.

This does NOT mean I've forgotten about the intermediate and expert portions of the pump/flow trail. I will still be pursuing funding to get those completed as soon as possible.

With that said, thanks to all the great volunteers that have helped me over the past few years, and please help me welcome Eric and Daniel as TCs of the busiest trail in our system!

Rode a few laps at Beatty over Thanksgiving and a big ole Tip o' the Hat to everyone who has helped at Beatty over the last few years.

The new section is great, the flow track is awesome, the bridge work and general maintenance are top notch. I have a soft spot in my heart for the Col. and its great to see the trail just keeps getting better.

With Black Mtn., Farlow, Heartbreak, Trace Ridge and all the classic Pisgah rides in my back yard, I still miss riding the rootiest singletrack around with my heart beating a hole in my chest and my lungs on the verge of exploding.

Its superb.

Thanks for all the work and if I can ever make a workday I'll be there!

Best of luck to you both it is an exceptional trail and an incredible asset to the community. I have literally hundreds of hours of my life invested there and I met some lifelong friends along the way! Long live the colonel!

Thanks for all of your work Brian (and Dave, and all the others!) The trail keeps getting better over the years, with each TC contributing to the last TC's flavor. She's a little eroded, sure, but for the most part that just means people are still riding it a lot! (***with the exception of areas where new subdivisions and dump all of their runoff water directly onto the trail system, or there are oddly frequent water mains that bust every two years and flood whole sections of trail***)

Beatty is the first place I ever rode a mountain bike. Now I have a sport that has changed my life for the better (minus all the broken bones).  Hopefully it will continue to impact others in the same way.

Good luck to the new guys, I'm here if you need help!!
