It could possibly be a good idea cause if you ever wanted to sell the bar and you ride your bars very short solution solved for selling it...

there's a lot of people want a wider bar these days

760 is my hotspot.  800 just seemed huge!

I found this calculation online and it has been dead on for me...

If you’re male, multiply your height in millimeters by 0.440.

If you’re female, multiply your height in millimeters by 0.426.

I am 5'9" so 1752.6mm/.44 = 771mm. I cut my bars from 785mm to 770mm and it has been a major improvement to handling and comfort.

I'm 5'9" as well, but find that anything wider than 740mm makes me feel too spread out in my arms.  Handling was a little better as they went wider, but I just wasn't as comfortable.

I'm 6'1" and I've been riding 680mm bars for years.  New bike came with 720mm bars and it didn't feel much different, and I've never felt like I needed wider (and considering close calls with trees I'm glad I don't have it wider!).

That calculation says my bars should be around 815mm!

I think the person who made that calculation assumes anyone over 6ft and change should stop at 800mm...

I ran 800mm for a few years, went down to 785mm, went down again to 770mm and I am pretty happy with that.

I have long arms and wide shoulders but I'm not very tall and I felt like 800mm was doing damage to my neck and back and actually making handling and control worse.

I think most riders sweet spot is between 720mm and 780mm. 800mm seems excessive now...
