Tarheel Trailblazers App / Charlotte MTB App

Hi folks! I'm new-ish to the mountain biking scene here in Charlotte. I was on the trail the other day and saw a tree down across the path. That made me think it would be cool to have an app to report trail problems, with photos and accurate location (via GPS). Other features might be trail status (open/closed), trail notes ("be careful on the first turn after the road, super muddy"), notifications ("Lake Norman State Park is now open"), general trail notes/info, trail maps, etc.

Is this something that anyone else would find useful? I have experience writing mobile apps and would be able to lend a hand.

I actually think this is a great idea.  I'm not app tech savvy by any means......however a TTB app on trail conditions, news, events...and whatever else could be really cool.  Would also bring more awareness to Tarheel Trailblazers.

Really good idea!  Think the ability to get GPS coordinates of a downed tree with a picture to determine how big a saw you would need could be a HUGE benefit to the trail coordinators. It could also speed up the notification process for other users when the work is done and reduce the number of duplicate efforts. No fun carrying a saw out when you could be riding. I’m the wrong guy to help with the set up; but I can see myself using it if done.

There's been discussion of having a trail status app.
Much of the other functionality you are describing already exists in Trailforks, mtbproject, and others. The problem is trying to get widespread adoption of a single tool.

I think putting up a list of all of the trail coordinators and IMing them through FB would work well.  I get TMs and IMs all the time about stuff at Fisher/Allison.

I agree.  I'd like to be able to get a notification when there's an issue at Sherman.  People are good about posting things but if I don't happen to check FB I may miss if something needs to be handled.  But having a list of folks for people to easily reach out to would be helpful.

I do agree there are plenty of apps for cycling and one just for the area is an expensive project with no return unless people are willing to pay to get connected.
I think that in the new website redesign you should just add the list of trails with a red or green light. It might also be possible to set up that when a light changes it will send automatically an update via email. This has to be checked if new layout will allow it or there are plugins that will allow you that feature.

AMBC trail status functionality on their home page is nice.  With links to the trail pages when you click.  Bottom right of the home page (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Looks like there are no shortage of solutions that other folks might prefer. I'll keep my eye out and see what the group decides.
