The Garmin bundles are starting to get cheap enough to peak my curiosity.    I haven't used one before.   As I have gotten older I have started to pay more attention to my heart rate on rides.  I think its time to upgrade beyond the apple watch for that...

Can anyone give me some input on if they use a garmin and how they work in the woods?  Any pros or cons you could share would be helpful.

The wheel sensor makes tracking milage MUCH more accurately, especially on a trail like Sherman.  I used to ride w/ a heart rate monitor, but honestly I saw it more as a distraction.   

I would highly recommend the wheel sensor.

Thanks for the input.  Are you referring to what they call a speed sensor?  Straps around the hub?

+19 on the speed sensor. Keep forgetting to put one on my singlespeed... rode WWC recently with some friends, my garmin watch said 17 miles, my friend with the garmin and speed sensor showed 20.

thanks for the input.  I ordered a bundle with speed sensor included.  Last I looked at these a few yrs ago, the woods schitzed out the miles on gps only.  But the sensor make total sense in truing up the miles.

I use a Garmin 645 and agree that its not very accurate in the woods, especially on tight switchbacks, on a 23 Mile ride it was off (short) by 4-5 miles.
