Mountain Island Lake Trail Blue Loop Open

CheesyThe trail has been cut, cleared and signed, now it just needs to be ridden.  Come on out and give the trail a try. Cheesy

MILT will compliment the Carolina Thread Trail by branching on and off the CTT. This hand built single track trail will span over five hilly knobs that run along the Catawba River just below the Mountain Island Dam. The trail is just starting and will continue to grow over the 150-acre parcel of land.

Address: 304 Mountain Island Rd. Mt Holly (When you come to round-a-bout, stay to your right and continue on the gravel road to the parking lot.)

Park in the parking lot below the dam.  Go around the chain and get on the CTT Green-way. Go about 1/2 mile on the CTT.  Go pass the CTT kiosk (the green-way comes to a T, stay to your left), the entrance to MTB trail is on the right, after the CTT trail kiosk.

NOTE: Because of the recent flooding, the Green Loop is temporary closed. A temporary trail entrance to the blue loop is a little farther down the green-way, right before the first bridge.

The CTT is about 1.5 one way and the single track is about 1 to 1.25 miles.

I rode this last night and mapped it to MTB Project a few minutes ago.  It will take a few days for the mapping to be approved by their admins to go live.  It is a fairly unique little trail.  The green loop was flooded so I couldn't ride the entire length of it but I was able to use Bruce's Strava data to fill in what I was missing.  The mapping for the green trail may slightly be off but I will adjust it in the future if need be.  The Outer Blue Loop is a pretty fun mini-enduro like trail although the trail feels like one continuous climb since the rowdy DH section goes by so fast.  The highlight of the trail is definitely the wooden ladder bridges near the end of the trail that are well made and add a bit of difficulty to the ride.  Even the CTT that connects the trail to the parking lot is a ton of fun especially near the end where you have the option of a short hill climb to a fast rooty descent back to the main part of the thread trail.

Thanks Vinnie.  We're mapped, so we are officially a trail.  Stay tuned we got some cool things planned for the next phases.
