Renni Revamp

So after 3 (or possibly 4) years of waiting for completion of the Creek Restoration, Renni Revamp is finally happening. Please keep an eye out for work days coming soon. Greg and I will start flagging new trails and reroutes once the underbrush thins out this fall. In the meantime, here is a quick summary of initial projects to get the trails mileage back to a point its worth a dedicated trip to ride Renni again.

Have the softball fields reopened?  Are the parking lots still a ghost town \ car break in thief paradise?

Softball field are not open and most will not reopen. Construction fencing is gone. There are lots of walkers and disc golf players there, so no it is not a ghost town. Crime moved to Gaston County about 4 years ago. But normal precautions should be taken like anywhere in Charlotte.

Trail work has started. We have flagged the new extension to Softball side and the first segment of the trails will be roughed in by end of day today. Hoping by December to add back a few miles.

Good to see Rennie is going to get some attention. Should attract more riders back which will only make it better. The PDF shows all the work is going to be around short track side.

Is there any work planned for the tennis court side? Is that still rideable? I haven't been out there for quite a while I remember the connector being a complete mess when I last rode it.

Tennis court side is getting some love too. Drains and brush were cleared by greg and we plan a boardwalk on the connector to be done with the mud. We also have some new trail and reroutes planned soon. Short track side is where we decided to start as its low hanging fruit to reconnect some of the remaining original trail. Looking forward to getting folks back to riding the place most of us started.

Work day this Sunday 1/12 from 10am until....We will be spreading crush'd concrete on the entrance section of the trail, cleaning up some berms, building a bridge to replace the causeway which keeps washing away, spreading crush on the cleaned up drop line. If there is time and enough volunteers we will also complete finish work on the short track extension, which due to rain we will not race this year but its a nice extension to the trail anyway. If there is time after having enough time, we can also clear corridor for future trail extensions happening at Renni.

Any estimates on how long the work will take on Sunday?  I’ve got to watch the kid (2) until the wife’s running event at WWC is over, but would love to come pitch in if there’s still work to do.

The official work day will only be a few hours. A couple of us will probably work until 2-4ish in the afternoon and will then ride. Feel free to come out. Even if it’s 20 minutes, we still get 20 minutes more of work done. And even if you simply come and only ride, that’s one more tire tread packing in the fresh crush

I’ll plan on coming and bringing the bike. Anything else I should bring in case I make it in time to do work (and I think I will)?

Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday for the Renni Work Day. So many hands made short work of some big projects. I wish I had more project ready to complete for the 40+ folks that came. If you have not, please remember to log your work hours on the below link. Tracking these hours helps us with grants, new projects, and opening up access to new land for trails.

Thanks for the works out there. The new bridge is better than most of 485! Fixing broken link for volunteer hours.
