Join the Tarheel Trailblazers for a weekend of camping, riding, and revitalizing the Wood Run Trail System of Uwharrie National Forest.

Work day will begin at 10am, Saturday October 12th, at the Wood Run Camp area.  Access Wood Run camp via the Wood Run trailhead parking lot off of Hwy 27 and follow the gravel road to the clearing where the Keyauwee and Supertree Loops begin.

Tools will be provided, but If you have your own favorites bring them along, and be sure to bring gloves and water as well.  We’ll split up into several groups and spread out to work on multiple trail improvements.

REI will be on hand to provide a hearty lunch for everyone.  They will also have some tasty trail snacks and some cool schwag for folks.

Stick around after the work day is done to camp and relax with everyone.  The Tarheel Trailblazers will be providing dinner, and there will be a hearty campfire for comfort and socializing.

Camping will be “primitive,” which is another way of saying we’re going to sleep in the woods without any campground amenities or modern conveniences.  Wooded tent and hammock camping is available throughout the area directly adjacent to the Wood Run Camp clearing.  For those who wish to bring a camper or just want to pitch their tent in a non-wooded scenario, there is a larger clearing a short distance down the entrance road where folks can stretch out a little more.

Please be aware that there is not a water source, nor traditional restroom facilities.  There is a pit-toilet located in Wood Run Camp, and REI will be providing a limited amount of water during the workday.  Participants should provision adequate amounts of water for themselves to last the entire weekend, plan to manage and remove any waste they produce, and prepare to abide by “leave no trace” guidelines.

For those who make it through the night, the Tarheel Trailblazers will be leading several group rides Sunday morning of various distances and difficulty.  Enjoy the fruits of your labor and shred with your Buds, knowing that you’ve helped give back to the trail community.
