WTB: Kids Bike, Parts for Refurbish & Renew

Along with everyone else out there I'm looking for a kids bike...
My delta is I could use any parts to combine and or refurbish "neglected" ones.

My son is on the edge of needing a quality 24" for trails with me.
His 20" will be available soon.

Plus I though if I can rebuild anything out there to get out on the market for others it could be a bonus?

So hit me up with either a good 24", or any various parts to refurb/refresh others.

Looking in particular for any youth bike with 7 speed trigger shifters.  Any condition.

Or if you just have the 7spd trigger shifters?  (Son has a bike with grip shift he doesnt like/too difficult for him to twist and looking to swap it out.)

Haha good luck. Im in the same boat building a bike for a buddy. I swapped out a grip shift a month or two ago with a 7sp trigger shifter and have since realized what a unicorn i had.

Im searching too... if i find more than one ill let you know!

I'm with you on the unicorn...  Very rarely see them.  Even my daughter wants a set after she took them for a spin on her brothers bike.  She is a little older and can at least manipulate the grip shift, but I can tell on the trail she doesn't like using them, so tends to stay in granny gears instead of SHIFT! ;]

Good point idea via PM, ill look on ebay for a couple sets...  Share the supplier if you end up satisfied with yours.

Yea the seller was trailthis and ive bought from them before, so usually a couple days.

Ive swapped a few kids bikes to trigger shifters so far, pretty funny that twist is stock on almost all kids bikes and it seems that MOST kids have issues and cant reliably twist them. Just a pain when the wheel only takes a freehub and not a cassette, so limits you to 7sp pretty quickly...

If i find a magic stash anywhere Ill let you know Smiley

You could also use 8 speed shifters for a 7 speed, you will just have one extra click on the high gear end(limit screw stops the rd there anyway). I have done it many times, always shifts fine. If it is a 7 speed cassette, you could also use 8 cogs from a 9 speed cassette with 9 speed shifters. Good luck on your project.

Yeah, interesting.  Assume you went with the?: Shimano Altus SL-M315-7R
from trialthis.

I see that model as low as $10...  Good find.  Thanks. (let me know if you encounter any incompatibilities when you receive)  Heck at $10, I just might have to order one...

Man i paid 17. I didnt see one for 10 the other day!

Also, i just relaced the rear wheel with a shimano ultegra hub, so im just gonna throw a 1x9 drivetrain on this bike, ill use the 7sp trigger on another project. For 10 bucks its good to have on hand. Might order another one or two since all my buddies kids have issues with their grip shifters...

Let me know if your not going to use that one for $17 as you mention.  Yours will probably come in before mine and I might be able to get him on the trail for this long weekend? (and since we know we can get them in all day long at $17 now...)  And I can be the guinea pig to ensure it works...

as KDS57 said, you could use Altus trigger and just have an extra click. I did this swap from grip shift to trigger keeping same freewheel cassette and derailleur on my sons Hotrock 20 a few years ago and it worked fine.
