Colonel Beatty Trail Hazard

I've been riding the Colonel a lot lately. Big kudos to the people that have recently improved the trail and removed lots of roots. Ride quality is greatly improved.

Over the last two weeks, with all the rain, two very deep holes have emerged that are pretty hazardous if you don't know to avoid them. When starting from the tennis courts parking lot, first section then cross road, three drops that are in the section from the rise down to the first bridge. Two of those drops have the deep holes. Saturday I saw an experienced rider nearly endo in one of the holes. Not sure how he avoided it.

Covid ain't the only danger lurking out there!

I took the family out there Father’s Day.  That one hole is right on the landing for that last baby jump.

With the more than abundant rainfall so far this year I'm sure all trails are having this type of hazard show up. I keep chasing similar things at RRT problems popping up were there have not been issues before. Wise for all to be a little more cautious than normal. I know that's a little hard to do with mountain biking being the type of sport that it is.

Just extending some thanks and appreciation for all the trail workers out there. And yes that includes everyone that takes a few minutes out of their ride to kick a stick or move other debris from the trail.

Time you enjoy wasting, is not wasted time.

Definitively lots of rain this year keeping things wet longer. I also have noticed a at least 35% increase in riders. Trail users are not giving enough time to let things dry out and thus more mud holes and bad spots.

Un fortunately I haven't noticed a increase in trail workers. Thanks to those who show some initiative and get in involved, and actually help fix the problems they see.

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

We've called that section the Three Amigos.  For those who have been around a while (remember Gramps?) they were three jumps.  Unfortunately time has eroded them to small humps.

We do need to get it fixed as that section is considered green and we need to keep families with kids safe.  It's been a while since I've done any work, so I volunteer to get out there this weekend and move some dirt.

Noticed that one starting a few weeks ago. Ran into an even bigger hazard a week later in the same spot - three generations of family, seven or eight strong, complete with dog, walking straight up the middle of those jumps, heads down, and oblivious. Grandma disapproved of us having the nerve to ride back there. Beatty just has too much foot traffic for my liking.

Bright side, plenty of time to avoid the potholes!

If anybody here took the flags and orange cones from where we fixed the hazard and armored part of the drop, please return them (at least they left the “caution trail work” sign).  Just trying to keep people off the repair when it was still wet and soft.

Just drop them near the repair - no questions asked

I rode Beatty on Monday and wow, those guys did a great job of repairing the Three Amigos.  THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
