Kiosk at Sherman Branch

Hey,

Whatever happened to the kiosk at Sherman Branch?  It being gone apparently hadn't registered in my head until Wednesday this week.  I encountered a lost runner along the double track that heads out toward the big pond for Lake Loop.  While I did get her back to the parking lot, she may not have ever been lost if their was still a map hanging on a kiosk.  Perhaps there never was a map and only other materials.

This used to be at the trailhead but was taken down roughly the same time the park closed for a few days for maintenance.  I don't know that the events are related or what actually happened so I'll make up my own story:

The NC Trail Championships were hosted at Sherman Branch.  When the underdog team won, they borrowed from a popular football tradition of tearing down the goalposts but instead they tore down the kiosk.  The idea was they would carry it back to their home city but instead could only carry it to the other end of the parking lot before they ran out of energy.  This was the last known resting place of the once glorious kiosk sign.  Legend has it that you can sometimes still see the ghost of the kiosk at the trailhead when a blue moon is in the night sky.

I used to be addicted to the Hokey Pokey but then I turned myself around.

Last I saw it some months back, it had been tossed in a heap at the far end of the parking lot.  I feel like I've been back since and it was no longer there.

As a board member i should know this, but i am curious as to what happened to it too. mainly because around the same time the Renni Kiosk was taken down too. I am wondering if someone at parks and rec took objection to them and just took them down.

I'm glad that this is an environment where you feel free to fail.

It came down when Parks and Rec added some gravel to the parking lot last month and the trail was shut down for a couple of days. No idea why they took it down but I took a good look at the posts and they were almost rotten all the way through. It sat at the end of the parking lot for quite a while then, it disappeared. I just assumed the club knew about it.

Maybe the kiosk has been adopted and is now at the trail head of someone's backyard Little Sherman private trail.

I went to ride there Tuesday.  There was no kiosk.  I got hopelessly lost.

I live here now, I guess.  Please forward my mail.
