I know that’s 2 things, but if someone wanted to ride a long(ish) descent where there is at least some chance that reckless abandon would be rewarded where would that be??

Racoon Mountain, not that close, but it really fits what you are looking for.

Uwharrie has some solid extended DH for something not in western NC.  Check out some strava segments on the Keyauwee trail (some "naked Indian warrior" segment name I think).

The true extended DH is all in the western NC mtns

Poston has some long, extended, illegal downhills.

I'm glad that this is an environment where you feel free to fail.

I think time wise, DH to river at RRT is the longest at around 1:40 as sad as that is.

...any large hill around here can be a gnarly downhill if you just roll into it...

I have bee eyeing up that big pile of fill dirt at the 85/485 intersection by Concord Mills

Please consider the environment before you...

error 404, not found

I think the closest option that fits the description is Beehive in Wilson Creek. Shuttling to Greentown then pedal to Beehive is good fun to effort ratio.

a long one ; although easy was the old Dairy barn to the trestle at Springs.  Like 1.5 miles.  I think it's called blue star now , hiking only .

mountains ;   Knarly
Hot Springs ,  Paint rock trail,  either way from lone pine gap,   especially to the right

Don't discount Steve's / RRT.  Several pretty good downhills.

Or, just go all in and ride Black Mountain in Pisgah or Ridgeline in DuPont.  Black Mountain with the new upgrades is killer

Lol, that fill dirt is pretty local...

I've been using RRT, USNWC and Uwharrie descents.  Wanted to be sure I wasn't missing anything.  I tried Poston when it was completely covered in big leaves this fall and struggled to navigate - but looked like there were some options available

Falls Dam ORV (off road vehicle) in Uwharrie National Forest is a 500 foot descent that is incredibly fun to mountain bike.  Huge humps, just double track the entire way.  Abount 2.5 miles of descent.

Do you have to get the ORV pass for your bike?  Also, is there much ORV traffic?
