North of Rail at WWC - Trail under development

Hey peeps,

Does anyone know anything about the loop seemingly long under development that is to be located north of Rail at WWC?  I saw last weekend that a bunch of new trail had been built over Winter under the power lines adjacent to Academy and was surprised to see this since the loop near Rail still shows as under development on the trail map.

Thanks!

Does anyone have any news about this new trail?  It has been on the map for a long time.  While Covid surely disrupted work out there a for a long time and probably still does in some way, I am little surprised that it hasn't opened since the facility clearly has returned to normal operations in 2022.  This may just come down to staffing challenges, and this would be understandable if the case.  It isn't like there isn't plenty of other trail for us to ride there and elsewhere.  I am only curious and not bitching.

Thinking the newly opened Chili Dog trail off Tributary has been the focus recently.

I apparently don't ride the east side enough since I didn't know about this add-on.

I included Chili Dog in my ride yesterday, and this is a worthy add-on.  A great thing about this option is that only about 30 feet of Tributary is lost when Chili Dog is taken.  I saw that even more trail is being added off Tributary along it northern stretch.  Work was underway yesterday, and much flagging can be seen through the trees.  This either starts or stops at the connector Tributary has with the Parkway trail.  I did notice the other end of the flag line.

I'd like to see Academy get an extension/reroute that brings the rider up to Belmeade with a connector that drops the rider on to the sidewalk so that we don't have to ride so much asphalt to get to the street crossing that takes us out to Panda and onward to Smokey and Bandit.

I also wish these forums weren't now such a void of activity.  It feels like a ghost town around here.

Got a chance to ride Chii Dog this past weekend, did it & Trib. twice(+ others). So, obviously I liked it but best part is first 10-15 seconds imo, 90% of the rest of it felt like mostly climbing. Still a fun trail. Smiley

Doesn't it feel good to use the forums here as if they were still the go-to place for everyone?

Yup.  If only the club officers and committed heads did we'd really be somewhere.  Roll Eyes

Update: The trail north of and across the tracks from Rail (Spider Wart) is still in the plan and work should start soon (potential of 3+ miles).  I've hiked the new trail north of Tributary a few times and it's nice and flowy, less painful and more fun vs. Chili Dog, it should open in the next few days hopefully (1.9 miles or so).

Nice work WWC!

Another 1.9 miles is nice, and us eventually seeing 3 more way up north is even better.  I'd like to see Academy get an option or reroute that keeps us on dirt all thee way to the  Belmeade crossing that takes us to Panda and onward.  This would keep us off the school road and sidewalk.

This trail has been on the main trail map for years. From what I have heard and understand, the problem has always been that part of the trail will need to cross the railroad, and they could not get permission - or were refusing to negotiate - to allow this. Glad to hear that work might start soon; they probably felt pressured to start building trails again with the loss of Tortuga and half of Thread.

Is Tortuga and that portion of Thread gone for good?  If so, this is a big loss.  I have always assumed this was temporary and that the closure was due to construction or something.  I have not venture down the gravel road in hopes of learning more since soon after barrier went up along Figure 8.

I believe Thread will be rerouted in some way, but Tortuga is gone. There's a water treatment plant being built back there and the trail is on their property now. Definitely sad to see it go as my favorite route to lap there was Tortuga into Needle and back.

Wow!  I had no awareness of this.  The two links below provide a lot of info.  I will be holding out hope that the stench of a open air treatment facility isn't to be something we must suffer with as we ride out there.  Like everything that is needed, it must exist somewhere.  Given that the whitewater center is an outdoor activities mecca, it is quite unfortunate that this new facility is to be adjacent to it.  I suppose all we can do now is wait and see.  Construction isn't expected to be completed until 2025 per the video made available at the second link below.

I now see elsewhere on the site that it is 2026, not 2025.

When will this project be operational? Collapse

The Stowe Regional WRRF is scheduled for completion in 2026. Charlotte Water is carefully going through each project phase to ensure delivery of the most efficient treatment facility for our community.
