Mazeppa has been an absolute mud bath since just after Thanksgiving.  It is being checked regularly.  I'm not the TC but will take my dog on walks out there to check in on trail conditions when it's closed and report back to the TC.

The soil out there is not the best and lots of groundwater seeps coming onto the trail.  In addition to the regular winter weather stuff, a giant excavator doing a drainage project on the soccer fields drove accross a few sections of the main trail near the beggining making deep mud and water pits.  Not sure when the town will have that damage fixed  Cry

For those interested, gnomes have been out at Mazeppa yesterday and today to blow the leaves off of the trail and out of drainages.  They should complete the entire trail this morning.  Not that the blowing along will get the trail back in great shape but it's a start.

The Town has confirmed that they will make the grading contractor remediate the damage the large excavator caused recently and they are also leaning toward providing an annual maintenance budget to get Jim Horton (the original trail builder) out on the trails once annually with the ditch witch to tune things up.  That should be a huge help to keep things fun out there and reduce the strain on the volunteers for heavy lifting projects.

Gnomes gave a positive report after leaf blowing this morning and trail is OPEN!  Go get some before the rain and deep freeze.  Trail will surely be closed again for a long time with that deep freeze thaw cycle setting in...
