This is it man. Mostly a bunch of old dudes who check the site out of habit developed over the years. And do not care for the CLT-MTB FB page.

Well especially when it's controlled and you can't post new topics.

Is this a roll call of everyone who looks at these forums?

Yea thats everyone.  Grin

If the powers that be updated this board to something where you could post photos and videos etc it may be able to make a come back. But they dont even post here themselves so why do they even keep it alive? Have they made a decision to NOT post on here?

I am still here and hate that these forums have become a ghost town.  I, too, don't do the the social media stuff like Facebook.  These forums and the like have worked perfectly fine for many years and weren't a problem in need of a solution.  The shift away has only introduced problems in my view.  As an application, forums software like YaBB is much better suited to discussion and info sharing than the Facebook frontends.

As for posting photos, folks have been doing this all along.  As for videos, I wish the internet had much less of this, and I find it hard to believe that this content format would offer any value in the context of how these forums have been Traditionally used.  Plus, a link to YouTube or whatever can always be included in one's post if the video is a must.

It would be great if an automated feed could be put into place so that Facebook posts by or for the club and, perhaps, some other selective submitters could available in a forum channel.

Agreed. But it is not easy to post a single photo. You have to host the photo somewhere else and post a link. Makes marketplace a pain to use. Am I wrong about that?

I guess the bottom line is that even the people on here complaining about the lack of activity barely ever post anything themselves. Except Robert C.

I think a challenge summed up in a label is "network effect".  I may have the wrong term.  It is where users only want to be where users are.  This one reason is why Facebook has had such a hold on people.  Few will leave, because they must convince everyone they care about to also leave.  I do think the club might find people returning to the forums if its Facebook page wasn't used by it in any ways that step on the forums or even the website.  I get that social media is important for marketing and reaching folks.  I'd like it to be used primarily for directing folks to the club's website.  It irritates me when a restaurant or other business doesn't have a proper website and instead only uses social media sites.  Not everyone is on these sites.  Plus, a proper website can provide ultimate flexibility in design and functionality.

Find a way to host trail details and status on Facebook and this site has no real purpose any longer

Not that I care, as it's on the other side of the planet, but, isn't Cedar Valley closed ?

Ales and Trails crew was out in force @ WWC last night.
