WWC - Parking next to elementary school

A heads-up for anyone who parks along White Rapids Rd next to the elementary school to ride Smokey/Bandit/Rail/Gravy, the USNWC has decided to start ticketing cars parked there. I had a ‘discussion’ with the guy, he said you need to park in the official WWC lot to access trails and was writing tickets for the cars already parked there. I don’t believe they can legally do that as that part of the road is shown as entirely on the county land for the school. The WWC does own the land next to it, but not the road. It is a private road owned by the county, so they could ticket, but they would have to have put up no parking signs, which they haven’t done. Still, you would have to go through the trouble of fighting the ticket.

I wonder how many of the routine parkers have the annual parking pass.  I think the school parking lot had been used as routine and that the gate eventually became a problem for this.  Surely it is either the city or county doing the ticketing unless the tickets are a mere bluff and scare tactic.

Yeah my question exactly on where these tickets are coming from.  Coming from WWC means nothing.

I used to park up at the school all the time even though I had an annual pass. Then about 1.5-2 years ago, WWC staff were up there warning people that individuals parking there would start to be ticketed. So I stopped parking up there. I do believe they stated the tickets would be coming from CMPD when I asked them about it, but I don't fully remember.

On one hand, I kind of get it...but I've also never seen that school even remotely busy or the people using it for parking abusing it at all and it just seems like a scummy way for WWC to make an extra $500 a year from the small amount of people that might park up there and also NOT have a pass. I'm sure it's coming from the school though.

Given that there probably aren't any cars parked on this street during peak school traffic time frames and that the cars aren't ever impeding traffic flow on what is a single purpose, dead-end street, I'd have expected the CMPD to have responded with something just slightly better than "no" to WWC.  Surely they have more important things to do.  I imagine that it is a short list of people that are regular users.  The WWC could probably convert enough users by placing some free annual parking pass stickers on cars on a couple of nice weekend days and then address the rest with signage.  They'd not actually adhere the sticker and would either leave a voucher or envelope with the sticker inside under a wiper.

They lowered the price of the parking pass from $60 to $40. Annual activity pass has been lowered a lot as well. Whats goin on WWC? You need less money and passing the savings on to the lowly patrons of your facility?

I didn't know about the lower price and haven't been there yet in 2024.  Has it been open yet?  Old Man Winter and the WWC trail system don't play well together and, and the trails are often in extended timeouts.  Wink
