Could it be changed to a less busy night like monday or tuesday?  Thursday seems a busy night out at restaurants and bars.

Thursday - as noted it is a popular night to go out for Happy hour or anything else.  Going on a long weekend and took Friday off, when do you leave?  During the summer the THTB are competing with things such as Live After 5 and countless other social events (including thirsty Thursday at the WWC).  The THTB have great participation of the older crowd, but there are lots of mountain bikers between the ages of 21-35 that like to be socially active as well.

I like Monday (2nd or 4th)  Smiley.

Some of the Divas are saying Tuesdays (our meeting night) are quieter...  (Sadly, Tues is probably the worst night for this traveling gal.)

If you do 2 days of hard riding on Sat & Sun, isn't Mon a good day to take off and go to a meeting?

With a location in uptown, parking would be a pain.  Southend Brewery maybe?

Parking in Uptown at the Fox N Hound in the evenings is usually less than 30 feet from the door.  At the most it maybe a 1/2 block walk (if you had to park in the garage).  It does not get anymore centrally located than Uptown.

I've been going to TB meetings since we met at Picasso's Pizza on Kings Drive.  Yes, back in '92 when anodized purple bike parks were all the rage.  While we changed the meeting locations over the years, they have always been the 1st Thursday of the month.  While we would like accommodate everyone, I would lean against changing the meeting time or day of the month.  As you can tell by the attendance, the day of the month and time works well for many people.  Also, I would aim for a place that has consistent monthly parking, which would leave mostly everything inside I-277 out.  I would hate for Muppets on Ice to jam up a Trailblazer meeting.  Before I suggest we go back to Park Road Shopping Center, does anyone know why we decided to leave Godfathers???  Anyhow, I for one, wouldn't mind going back to Park Road Shopping Center and giving Fuel Pizza a go.  Just one opinion.

Peace Out!

Has attendance risen or fallen recently?  Are you getting new people in the door that are willing to be involved on a higher level?

Just 'cause something's always been that way, doesn't mean it has to continue.  Change can be good.   Smiley

Over the last couple years I've seen the attendance only go up.  I'm not adamantly apposed to change, I just don't see the point.  In a perfect world our meeting to be convenient for everyone.  You can't please everyone all the time.  I'm sure if the meeting were moved to a Wednesday (or any other day for that matter) it would jam up little Jimmy's scouts meeting or Sally's pottery class or Freddie's night ride!

Just voicing my opinion.... that's all.  By no means should my suggestion to be taken negatively.  I don't know... put the meeting location and time on the ballot when we vote on the new board new month???  I'll do my best to make any meeting time and location a priority in my schedule.

I think the only choices are Tuesday and Thursday:

Monday – Compete with Monday Night Football
Tuesday – Possibility
Wednesday – Compete with race series
Thursday – Possibility
Friday - Weekend
Saturday - Weekend
Sunday - Weekend

Does anybody have the ability to (live) webcast the meetings, or record them (video or audio) for later playback (edited for just the important parts, we don't need to see everybody ordering beer and appetizers)?

I know from the East side of town, it takes 45 minutes to get to the meetings uptown, and about 30 minutes to make it back home (a little less traffic on the way home).

Having an easy way to watch or listen to the meetings probably won't "make" the regulars stay home - but would help those of us that can't easily make a meeting keep up with what's going on in the club.

August and September meeting minutes...am I missing them somewhere? I don't see them on the website anywhere  Undecided

Thanks!

P.S. "our" website has a "poll" function - somebody make a poll topic asking what night works best for them, meeting-wise, and let's see how it shakes out.  Undecided

I am in agreement…We can’t please everyone, working man’s Friday or not…See discussion concerning chapter meetings, below…

Attendance has been on the increase…Summer months are historically slow, but with the exception of August, the turn-out has been great…We have always faced and will continue to face apathy in the mountain bike community...While we do need new faces, I seriously doubt that the chosen day of the monthly meeting is what is holding anyone back from stepping forward...We post a ton of information on the website and those that are interested, meeting day, location, microbrew (yep, I said it) or not will step up if interested...My life revolves around family members (significant other, 5 kids, an aging mother) in 5 cities, Asheville, Boone, Huntersville, Greensboro and Raleigh...I seem to make it happen, it just depends on where you place your priorities...Certainly, my trail time has been limited, sometimes I have to give up a ride to make a meeting to discuss a new parcel of land, orchestrate an agreement with a land manager, etc...You have to be willing to give, just a little...

As with all things voluntary, I doubt this is a possibility...We have enough issues with getting trail workers out on a regular basis...

I feel your pain...Many of us venture down from Mooresville, Davidson, Huntersville, etc...This just reinforces the need to develop Trailblazer chapters around the Metro-Charlotte area...We have done just that in the Lake Norman area, but need leadership to step up to put additional chapters on line...These chapters would meet independently of the monthly club meeting and allow the majority from a certain chapter to name their own meeting location, day and time...The LN Chapter meets bi-monthly at Shomar's in Mooresville (exit 33) on the third Thursday of the month...

Hmmm, I need to get with Leah on that...I thought we had them posted, I'll see where we are...

There, I fixed it for you.

Thursday nights are OK for me.  I (currently) live in Indian Trail, and it's really no problem for me, but it's actually closer to home than work is, so I guess distance is all relative to what you're used to.  Shoot, Brian H. comes to the meetings all the way from Boiling Springs, and he only misses meetings if he's traveling out of town.

By the way, I know of a great house for sale in Indian Trail, equidistant to Beatty and Sherman... killer deal, great Lake Park neighborhood, Porter Ridge schools....

Tom, probably knows more about bars than I do, whether he wants to admit it or not. Age and experience are both on his side.  Anyone that knows me knows that I like beer. But I have to agree with Leah, I would like to be able to hear. (I CAN hear better than Tom) I go to the meetings to stay informed not drink (at least not primarily). That's what Fridays and Saturdays are for. As for social outings, one night a month is not too much to ask. And if you really need the extra night for socializing, come early, stay later and bring a friend. (hint: I think we need more women to soften up the meetings.) That early morning weekend ride hurts my social life considerably more than a Thursday night meeting.
"Gee, Betty, I sure would like to stay out till 4:00 AM with you, but I have to meet 6 sweaty guys and one hot woman, that can kick my butt on a bike for a ride at 7:00 AM. Sorry but 10:00 is my bedtime. Ok, 11:00, but no laterl."

Since becoming a Trailblazer in 1996, the meetings have only grown in size, which is one of the reasons it is so difficult to find a meeting spot. Especially, one that doesn't charge for a group of this size.

Changing the night or time will make it inconvenient for someone else. But if necessary I would have to agree with Brian that Tuesday would be the only alternative.

All that being said I would have to agree with Fuel Pizza in Park Road Shopping Center. It meets most of the criteria. Morehead tavern might be another place, but they may have other events going on at the time.

The minutes for August are done, should be posted soon.  The September minutes are being typed.  I was out of town for both the August and September meetings so I have gotten behind on minutes.  October minutes will be typed up within the next week or so.

I think the little orphan annie decoder needs an upgrade...   August minutes are posted twice under August 2007 and October 2007  Wink

Damn, you guys are quick!  I admit it, I screwed up and originally posted the August minutes under October, but I have no admin tool to correct it...We're hoping that re-posting the October minutes will write over the erroneous minutes...Either that or I'll need to get the webmaster in on the action...

I tried that once last year -- didn't work.  It just posted different minutes twice with the same month's header twice.  I think our webmaster had to delete one of them.

All in all, I don't believe the time and day of the week is the major issue - I come in from Gastonia.  When we had the side room at the Dillworth, it was more than acceptable.  That room apparently has become unavailable.  I believe that instead of worrying about day and time, we should look for some place that we can hear ourselves, first and foremost.  Food is a second piority as many of us come straight from work.  Lastly, the type of beverage is a last consideration - I enjoy a great glass of beer but it is not a necessity.

Seems it would be easier to find a room that is suitable on a less busy night.
