When I was a kid, I prayed for a bicycle.  When I learned it didn't work that way, I stole one and asked God to forgive me...

I'll be there.  Beehynes may or may not be back in town for it.  He might walk in to the meeting late.  I'll bring the checkbook, since I forgot it at the regular meeting in Charlotte.

Bummed I couldn't go tonight but we went to the story for groceries and came home with a puppy tonight.  Leaving the family with an 8 year old whiner so I can go drink beer and talk bikes didn't sound right..

What a contrast today.  Spent 2 hours this morning at the Lake Norman Bike Route meeting in Mooresville with about 25 mostly government types (once again, no other bike shops represented, kinda sad).   They took the entire time to fine tune 2 pages worth of vision statements and definitions.  I guess it needs to be done but it sure seemed lot of man hours dedicated to a simple task.  I was mentally calculating how much trail could have been built with the 75 man hours the meeting occupied Wink  Not mountain bike-related but this would be a huge asset for the region if they can pull it off, especially tied into the Carolina Thread Trail.

Then comes the evening meeting.  Probably about the same number of participants and same time frame.......but, we were told about stuff that IS happening.  Expansion of LNSP to nearly 20 miles, new trails in Denver, improvements at Signal Hill, beginnings of a neat project at Lakewood Park in Charlotte to introduce kids to mountain biking that might not get the opportunity otherwise.  I sure do like spending time with people who actually MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.  Keep up the great work.

Jeff's right, there really is a lot being accomplished in the area.

The Trailblazers have 13.5 miles of new trail underway and about 12 additional miles in planning, PASA has added 2+ miles to Poston and is close to opening the Huntersville TTF-arama, Keith, BSG & company in Denver opened their 4.2 mile trail with potential for more, , the Signal Hill gang is hard at it and raising grant money for more, and Albermarle is in the early stages of revamping their existing trails and raising big money for the IMBA Ride Center. WOW!

I counted up; in the immediate area, (includes the local club trails and above trails, Ann Springs and Cane Creek), we have approximately 104 miles of singletrack trail available to ride today. We have approximately another 13.5 to 20 miles of trail being built now and another approximately 12 to 20 in the planning stages.

Talk about some momentum! Lets keep it rolling. If you are not active in some way, please join a club, look for some trail work, plan an activity, raise some money, take a kid or a friend mountain biking, bake some cookies for the next group ride or anything else you can think of. Everyone can do something and it all makes a difference.

Thanks.

p.s. Right now the Trailblazers are looking for folks with a few hours to spare to help with planning a Bike Week activity and in promoting and finding sponsors for the Catawba Riverfront Classic fundraiser.  Please contact me or any of our Board members.

What a great meeting!  We had 16 people attending (17 if you count Hynes Jr.).  We touched on a lot of good subjects that included not only current and future trail projects, but also web-site upgrades/changes and the club focusing more on social avenues/events.  We talked in length about how important it is to give back to the community (Lakewood and Southwest District Park) and expanding on the social aspect of the club to encourage continued and new memberships.  We even let bOB Karriker talk....and talk...for awhile... Wink which is always enlightening and entertaining!  Cheesy
Like Advocat said, we have a lot of momentum going and we need to capitalize on that and get/keep more members involved.

We have plenty to do for everyone and have a busy schedule with trail work, social events and more importantly, BIKE Charlotte!

Stay involved!  Seeya on the trails! Cheesy
