The Villa Heights community here in Charlotte, which borders the Noda District, and Cordelia Park, needs the help of experienced trail designers and builders for a neighborhood trail to support their community. I've included a web address with some brief information.
The community has the support of Park and Recreation, maybe even some grant money for materials, but needs some help laying out and building a short trail. Our illustrious Past President Jim Grover got to see the area during some recon work on potential connectivity for the I-277 Colonade Project, and thinks the trail could maybe be one mile long or so, but could be shorter depending on how much of the park property could be used. This isn't part of the I-277 Colonade Project, just to be clear, but it would be a good show of faith as we work on the project.
The Tarheel Trailblazers might be able to contribute funds based on a prior grant we were awarded, but that would most likely be if a professional trailbuilder is used, and at this time we don't have one lined up.
Would any experienced trailbuilders be willing to volunteer to help lay out a short trail to help this community? My gut tells me if we could get someone with the know how to flag the trail, and help coach the local folks on how to build it (managing water drainage, benching if needed, etc...), the Villa Heights community could provide most of the work force.
This won't be a destination trail like most of what we ride, but it's near some good connectivity within the city, and the community has the right idea trying to make a healthy and safe place for folks to get outdoors and have fun.
As the old saying goes, sometimes you have to give to get, and this really aligns with our club's mission statement. We just need a volunteer to help lead the project.
If anyone is interested please let me know and we'll go from there.
