Tarheel Trailblazers and Dirt Divas Year End Party
Yesterday at 4:32pm    It's time for another fun year end party with our sister club the Dirt Divas. The Dirt Divas ALWAYS do a great job helping organize this party, and are nice enough to let the Trailblazers join in the fun. See details below.

Sat November 5th 2011
Location is the Anne Springs Field Trial Barn, 835 Springfield Parkway, Fort Mill, SC 29715
Meet 1:45 pm
Rides start 2 pm
Dinner at 4:30 pm
$10 per person/Trailblazer paid the day of the event for a dinner of Chicken Penne Pasta, Vegetarian Chili, Fruit, Salad....and CAKE!!

While we work out the details on sending out an email blast, possibly using an evite or some other application that IMBA may have, the ADD males could use help getting a headcount to order food. If you can make the party please post up here with how many people will attend, and we'll keep working on this.

We'll enjoy some good riding, good food, and a fun raffle...where one of the prizes will be a cool set of Tarheel Trailblazer cornhole boards with bags included.

Just a note on the planning...  We've been pretty much sticking to the first Sat in Nov.  Seems to work well & doesn't conflict with The Stampede, which is usually the first Sun.

Look for the same date next year.  Wink

Also, as mentioned, you should've gotten the e-vite thru the IMBA mailing list.  Please respond there.  We will need an accurate head count by the previous Mon (Oct 31) for the food order.  (If you're coming as a guest of a Diva, please be careful not to double-count.)

Thanks & look forward to a fun day with everyone!

The evite has been sent out but if you didn't receive the email here is a link to it. You can also post your RSVP here or send me a PM also if you prefer.

I'm not going to be able to make it this year, but I encourage all Trailblazers (and of course Divas) to attend.

This is a really fun day for the whole family - we get to celebrate another successful year with a great ride and then share good food and friendship. And if you buy a few raffle tickets and don't win any of the many, many prizes,  well you are just plain unlucky! (Hint - sit as close as possible to Patty S. - she wins so much her luck's gotta rub off!) A lot of great prizes go out the door and the main raffle supports the Divas' Project Angel, thus a win-win.

Come on out and join in your clubs' year-end celebration.

(Please don't forget to RSVP so we know how much food to order.)

Good Question!

I'm not sure there is a definitive answer, but have some ideas:

- "We've always done it this way!" Well, so long as I know we've always held the party at Spings and it has worked well.
- Facilities: the Field Barn has running water, bathrooms and even a wood stove if it gets cold. It's got that mountain biker chic, rustic appeal too!
- We can bring in catered food.
- Can't have beer at Lake Norman.
- Springs' trail doesn't get the weekend traffic some other places get, like Beatty (Beatty does have a good facility though.)

My 2 cents.

Is there a rain date if the trails are closed, or is just the ride canceled and the party goes on?

Re: the location - I'm certain that the ability to serve & consume Beer has much to do with the choice.  Also, as Jim mentions, the facilities - large enclosed/covered building with sinks, electricity, bathrooms, plenty of tables & chairs, outside fire ring, etc. all make for a nicer environment for food storage, prep & clean up, display of raffle prizes, hanging out, etc. (And, some would argue that the THTB, while not solely responsible, do much to assist in the maintenance of these trails.)

Re: rain date - We have been extremely fortunate in my 6+ years of attending that we have had beautiful days for this event.  I suspect, in the case of wet trails, we would skip the ride and the rest of the event would go on as scheduled.  If you are not directly involved with the planning, it is probably difficult to appreciate all that goes on behind the scenes...  the reservation (date, deposit, contract) is made well in advance.  The caterer selection, menu, etc. planned months in advance.  Details/head count for food finalized the week prior...  Hopefully you get the idea.  In the unfortunate circumstance of wet trails, we can't let all that food go to waste!  Please treat it as a social event & come hang out!  You'll see old friends you haven't seen in awhile, you will get to meet the officers for both clubs for the upcoming year and, if you're lucky, you'll likely win some cool bike related stuff.

This is more than just a group ride, its a well planned event.

We hope you appreciate & enjoy!

What kind of "cool" prizes? you ask...

In addition to this:

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

past prizes have included:  SS conversion kit, Light set, Garmin

and of course standard gear related items; camelbaks, jerseys, gloves, arm & knee warmers, etc...

Come on out & take your chances.  Smiley

Luv to have you, and all the rest of you that I haven't met yet.

For those so inclined, we probably won't get a keg and ask for donations this year, so it's BYOB. In years past the ale was done completely outside of club funds BTW...someone volunteers to buy it on their own dime, and the rest of us chip in with our own money to make sure he isn't left holding the bag/bill. All in moderation of course, since this is an event where the whole family is welcome.

This could end up being a good thing as we have many eclectic tastes when it comes to the ale, so it could turn into a fun little beer tasting session on the fly.

I think we're up to about 55 people between the Dirt Divas and the Tarheel Trailblazer evites. If it rains we'll eat, raffle off some cool prizes, maybe play some indoor cornhole, have a little beer tasting, etc...etc...

I'm down for this. Maybe a little Scotch Ale for the tasting, probably be suitable weather to be drinking these anyway. Let's get this started. So what y'all bringing? Probably get a few growler fills if you so inclined. Let me know. There are a couple of places around town that we can get a few growlers from.

10 day weather forecast is looking pretty good right now.

On the growler thing, I'm thinking about something from OMB and possibly some Green Man IPA from up Ashevegas way....still pondering.

Just replied to the evite.  I've been adjusting my work schedule in order to attend!  I'm excited to "get back out there" so to speak.

Weather for next weekend looks like it will be primo!

On the beer thing... how about someone bring a big cooler and whatever beers we bring to "share" we can put in the cooler... kind of like a beer pot luck?  You bring a beer, you take a beer and so on...

OK, I picked up a 6-pack at the store to bring Saturday.  Nothing too exotic, but one I know I like.  I'll only drink a couple, so the rest are for sharing!  Who's got a big cooler?

Since the rain stopped very early this morning, way up here in Concord, I assumed we'd be okay.  But unfortunately I learned that it did not stop raining until later this afternoon in Fort Mill.  According to the ASG hotline, the trails are currently closed.  It's supposed to be warmer & sunny tomorrow so hopefully we'll be okay.  But we won't know until tomorrow.  We'll try to post up here, but if in doubt, please call their hotline number listed on the homepage.

If the trails remain closed, the party will continue at scheduled time...just no ride.  So 4:30-5pm party/chow/raffle time.

Per the Dirt Divas the following decision has been made:

Hello all,
The Anne Springs biking trails are closed as of this morning per the trail hotline.  Patty Smith and I made an executive Dirt Diva decision, and have told our membership that the trails are closed.  We will hike instead of ride.

We've had great weather for so many of our past year end parties but this year we are not so lucky.

cheers,
Laura G.
