Oh...and I plan to try the voodoo magic trick with apple cider vinegar.  My dad said he does this to keep cholesterol down.!  Worst case senario, I will build a tolerance for vinegar!   Grin

The vinegar works for a load of stuff haha.  Its pretty crazy actually.  Helps my cholesterol and my blood sugars.  I've tried mixing it with about every juice on the planet and Welchs Concorde Grape of the V8 Fusion works best haha.  Good luck man

I remember your surgery and rehab from reading the forum, but I thought the injury was bike related. There's no glory in that at all!    Smiley Smiley

(At least bike injuries are cool...)

Naw, dude.  It was straight Darwin Award material.  Tim "Dinger" (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) even helped walk me in when it happened.

I wish it had been bike related.  Actually I'm glad it wasn't bike related.  Would have made it that much harder to get back on the bike.

I've got my old tricked out crutches if you need them! Wink  Even has a water bottle cage mounted to it.

I have tried platform pedals so my foot could pivot on the pedals, but this did not help.  Undecided

Any comments and/or suggested actions would be appreciated!  Hopefully, this turns out to be something simple!

Thanks!  >>  James

Keep in mind that platform pedals will not allow "float" while you're actually pedaling. Most clipless pedals allow some float as you turn the cranks over, but the pins on flat pedals are much more prohibitive.

Try putting a clipless pedal on one side and a flat on the other. Now pedal your bike and try moving your ankles from side to side.

BTW, my mention of "tall" was not to say the bike was too tall.  I meant the gear was too difficult to ride at a healthier cadence.

check out patella femoral syndrome, the pain shows up on the edges of the knee cap and can be caused by weak vmo.  i've also read that if you cycle with your seat too low, it can cause this issue to be more prevalent.

i just had both knees "scoped" about 7 months ago.  i was having knee pain from running and biking.  going up and down steps was the worst finally couldn't take it any more and found out that i had some overuse wear and tear.  did both knees at the same time, debridgement and plica resection on both.  i went to dr. glen perry at perry orthopedics(bobcat's dr.).  i was walking two days after the surgery, slow, but walking without crutches.  it's worth going to the doc.

That doesn't sound very pleasant.

Figured I'd post an update/resolution to this since I recently saw another post on knee pain.  I went to see a physical therapist (Architech Sports).  Basically...they told me I was incredibly in-flexible and had a tight IT band which was pulling on my knee joint.

After a few weeks of daily stretching and rolling out on a foam roller...the problem faded COMPLETELY.  Now I stretch 2-3 mornings a week.

Couple tips...
- Hold each stretch for 40-60 seconds or you will be wasting your time
- Mild to medium tension during the stretch, dont over do it
- For cyclists, focus on hip and IT band stretches
- Foam rollers are magical... Hurts at first but it helps to loosen up muscle tissue
