Assuming the trail opens by tomorrow night the ride is on this week. I can't make a 5:30 lap so I will be getting there by about 6 and will ride 2 laps. Forecasted low for tomorrow night is 10 so the pace will be pretty much as fast as I can ride with no stopping. At least I won't be stopping. Anyone else is welcome to stop as much as they want. Smiley

With temps that low, not sure if the Ultimate guys will be coming out for the late lap at 7:15. I guess we will find out how hardy they are.  Wink

Ride is on for tonight.......First lap starting about 6pm. My legs are feeling a little shot so I may or may not be doing a second lap depending on how I feel at the time. If so, that will be about 6:45 or so. Then anyone that wants to do a late lap join up with the Ultimate Bicycle guys starting about 7:15 or so.


(this is a social-ish ride but tends to be a faster pace so not well suited to beginners)

Great ride tonight, BUT...  

...a park ranger was working to clear riders out of the park and off the trails.  It was around 7:30-45 when he'd seen a couple of us and got on the intercom.  He was a younger guy who's been working at Beatty's for about 3 months.  Nice guy named Bryant.  I spoke to him for a while in the parking lot after finishing my 2nd lap.  He wasn't aware of there being an approved Wednesday night ride.  He was going to check with his management.  I told him I'd let the current organizer know to check with Parks and Rec too, just to make sure they are still ok w/the Wednesday night ride.  

As an FYI, the ranger told me a couple of their tool sheds were broken into recently and had some leaf blowers and other tools stolen, so they've ratcheted up their vigilance.

Keeping my fingers crossed my favorite night ride still has the county's blessing.   Smiley

Same thing happened a few years ago. We got hassled by Park Watch one night and were told that we couldnt night ride. I spoke with Management and she said she had no problem with us riding as long as it was a "scheduled" ride and we informed her and Park Watch that we were going to be out there. We also had to be out by 9pm (when the tennis/soccer folks leave).

They might just need a reminder.

Man it just rubs me the wrong way that there's people coming in, jacking up the trails (on the ATV) and now someone (I'm guessing prob the same people) are stealing things from people supporting something that is good for the community.  Just doesnt make sense... Cry

Night riding is on the radar with parks and rec big time. No night riding of any sort at beatty or any of the other Mecklenburg parks until we have had talks with upper management. Doing so risks any chance we may have a future legitimized nighttime access to the trails. So in short.... I'm working on it!

Also - quick intro, I don't think I've met/ridden with any of you guys, I bought lights a couple months ago and am hooked on night rides.

Great group tonight. The pace may have been a little less than social but we did stop to make sure no one was left behind. I think we had the whole trail crew there! It's been a while since that happened👍
