Thanks to everyone for coming out even though we couldnt ride. It was hard making that call but we have to respect the trails. Sorry to those who drove to Sherman only to get rained out again...playin storm chasers all afternoon pretty much sucked haha. Hopefully next week momma nature will play nice...

Hey Mark...How much grant money would it take to buy one of these?

With forecast tomorrow, I'm guessing a ride won't happen.

Well folks,

Looks like I'm going to be taking some time off organizing this ride(and my bike). Due to a recent, nagging injury I've decided that the best thing to do is rest and recover. The thought of staring down several months off the bike sucks, but, If there was ever a good summer to hang up the bike its this one.

Please try to keep this ride going. If someone would like to step up and help host this I can get you hooked up with Ultimate Bicycle for raffle items. If the Docs say i can road ride I'll probably organize a weekly social-pace road ride out of Waxhaw if anyone is interested in that.

If anyone knows a good Orthopedist, massage therapist, or general Neck/Shoulder/Back specialist let me know. Thanks guys Smiley

I don't mind taking this ride on for the future, but I'm getting some rain right now.  Let's keep an eye on the home page and make a call later today.

My wife was a long-time OrthoCarolina employee, she recommends Dr. Milam or his PA.

I had ACL surgery on my knee a couple of years ago and went to Orthocarolina. Very happy with the results overall. My surgeon was Dr. Flieschli or however you spell it. Did all my PT there also.

I can help with organizing the rides also. I work in Matthews so it would be easy for me to get to Ultimate when needed. Maybe Brad and I can share the duties. I can't really lead the rides since most of you guys are faster than me but I can get rides started and I can make sure no one gets left in the woods.

Bryan,

I strongly recommend Michael Elkins, LMBT, a neuromuscular and masage therapist. The last contact info I have for him is 704-527-4799, 4 Woodlawn Green, Suite 200 (but that may be at the Southeastern School of Neuromuscular and Massage Therapy - which I believe he has left). Michael worked on my shoulder - rotator cuff - with terrific results. My sister was trained in and practiced the same type of therapy and it can have profound results. Michael is excellent. I hope he is still practicing. Here is some info I found on line for him:

MIchael has been practicing structural bodywork since becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist in 1991. From 1994 through 2005 he was Co-owner, Director of Training, and Lead Neuromuscular Therapy and Functional Anatomy Instructor at the Southeastern School of Neuromuscular and Massage Therapy of Charlotte. He has maintained his private practice in Charlotte, NC since 1994, and the 2013 NFL season will mark his 11th year as the team neuromuscular therapist for the Carolina Panthers.

I also happened upon good references ON LINE for Davede Varner - also trained in neuromuscular massage therapy (at the Southeastern school I think). 2221 Park Road, 704-204-8209.

Good luck! We need you riding on the trails!!
Jim

Hey Emily, Flieschli (sp) did my knee also, I tore everything!  ACL, MCL, PCL, and both meniscus, he said it was the worst one he had ever seen.  Him and Aaron got me back up and riding!

Those guys are awesome.

Hey that's cool. Yeah Aaron was trip. He would have me laughing every time I went in there. I tore my ACL and meniscus and sprained my MCL. Snow skiing.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the suggestions. Im going to my regular Orthopedist at Ortho in Monroe. Dr. Meade has done every broken bone ive had(which is quite alot) and I'll see if he can refer me to Dr. Flieschli. Hopefully I'll be back on the bike and in the boat sooner than later. Thanks again

Thanks man. Good advice no doubt.

The Doc said that I have a stressed C7-C8 vertebrae. He gave me some stretches and some pills that he guaranteed would make me go bat &^&^ crazy, and reduce inflamation too. I went to bed Tues with severe pain and woke up Wed pain free...been that way ever since. Weird. Good new is I can ride as long as I avoid "ballistic impacts on my spine". Whatever that means. See yall next Wed!

My brother had that same thing.  Pulled something paddling and said it felt like his muscles were ripping away from his back.  Took some pills and a week or two of rest and good as new.

So far this ride is still...
ON!!

If we dont have anymore rain tonight or tomorrow then we're good. Doesnt look likely but you never know. I'll post up if this is cancelled.

Otherwise...

Meet at the Tennis Courts. Wheels roll at 6:20 sharp for lap 1. Lap 2 starts at 7:15. Ultimate Bicycle of Matthews raffle between laps.

As usual we'll ride at a social pace which means no one gets dropped and ride at your own pace/skill level.

Keep your fingers crossed!  Smiley

If the weather holds out, I'll be there. Brian, you're gonna think I'm stalking you.

And you would be right.
