Open Trail!

Cane Creek Park's trail sysyem is open and actually in good shape. Been out doing my monthly inspections and Im riding it this afternoon. Only a couple of really bad mud holes but overall the trail is nice and tacky, especially on the campground side of the lake. The park closes at 7pm and its $7 to ride. That sucks but its better than sitting at home staring at your bike and pouting...

We have 14 miles of single and double track and we're approx. 20-30 minutes
from Providence rd. /485 intersection.

Waxhaw!!! Land of dry trails and drunk mayors... Grin

Off of Highway 16, just follow the brown informational signs.  Cool place to rent a canoe on the cheap, assuming they still do that.

Kinda like the local version of Uwharrie with fewer hills but lots of mileage.  Both seem to be less impacted by rainfall compared to trails with a heavier clay base.

It has to have been 25 years since I have ridden CCP, maybe in '88.  I probably should pay 5 String a visit on his home turf.  It ain't that far from Matthews.

I used to ride; now I just drink and cry about not riding.

We're out there but its not like driving to URE or Warrior Creek. The trails are...ok. Nothing spectacular but if you like a change of pace and some scenery besides neighborhoods and cars then c'mon out. Some is double track we use to go from point A to B in the backcountry of the park, the rest is nice single track. IMO it has some of the toughest climbs in the area(not counting RRT or URE). Much more technical than Sherman, WWC, etc. Lots of big rocks, rooty downhills, and real creek crossings. My weekly ride out there is about 14+/- miles with only a little doubled up.

I would suggest making a day of it and coming out early to ride before the horses show up. Bring a lunch and your fishing pole and hang out. Excellent bass and crappie fishery and you can actually eat the fish out of the lake. Not like Catawba/yadkin river lakes. The park is approx. 1100 acres so theres plenty of room to find peace and quiet.

The THTB's used to help maintain the trail and SCOTT T was one of the OG's that helped build alot of stuff out there. They did a great job and Im still riding their work. The park hasnt done much in terms of trail work since. I cut/clean drains but only about once a month if at all. Its shared use(horses Angry) and costs $7 to ride($4 for park entrance, $3 for trail pass unless you know the secret entrance).

Ive been trying to get our Director and Asst. Director fired up about getting more bikes out there but I've had no luck yet...

What's this single track I hear of at Cane Creek? Last time I went, it looked like the only trails open to bikes were double track... if there's some okay single track, I might give it another try  Grin

Not too bad...we had a little shower about 1pm today. Didnt last long. I go on duty at 6am and will repost trail status.

FYI...If it is open it will be sloppy in spots.

Looking forward to hearing how it is. I will definitely be there if it is open. Thanks in advance.

oh, excuse me..."allegedly" drunk mayor  Wink. One things for sure...that lady's got a set. She aint going down without a fight haha.

Cane Creek Park's trail system is OPEN!

Be mindful before you make the drive and spend $7 to ride that the trail is still very muddy and slick in spots. There will be several large mud holes that may need to be walked around. But, if you gotta ride its probably the best option besides RRT if its even open. My suggestion is to ride the Purple trail over to the Campground and ride the trails over there first, then finish with a lap on the DUA Red trail. Get a map too.

The trails are shared use so watch for horses, they have the right of way.

Cost is $4 per vehicle and $3 for a trail pass= $7. Veterans get 50% with ID =$3.50.

Park closes at 7pm

Lol. I read the article in The Observer. Guilty? Likely. But it sounded like she was a good mayor and people were making a big deal out of nothing (she also drank wine at dinner on a business trip and still used the town credit card - whoa). If Obama can spy on half the planet (including us) I'm not quite ready to burn this woman at the stake for throwing  a few back.

I'll drive defensively when I come out to check out your trail though.  Undecided

Thanks Banjo.  We didn't make it out yesterday but were hoping to today.  Any chance the .4 inches we got here in Mint Hill missed CCP?  Thanks.
