It has to have been 25 years since I have ridden CCP, maybe in '88. I probably should pay 5 String a visit on his home turf. It ain't that far from Matthews.
We're out there but its not like driving to URE or Warrior Creek. The trails are...ok. Nothing spectacular but if you like a change of pace and some scenery besides neighborhoods and cars then c'mon out. Some is double track we use to go from point A to B in the backcountry of the park, the rest is nice single track. IMO it has some of the toughest climbs in the area(not counting RRT or URE). Much more technical than Sherman, WWC, etc. Lots of big rocks, rooty downhills, and real creek crossings. My weekly ride out there is about 14+/- miles with only a little doubled up.
I would suggest making a day of it and coming out early to ride before the horses show up. Bring a lunch and your fishing pole and hang out. Excellent bass and crappie fishery and you can actually eat the fish out of the lake. Not like Catawba/yadkin river lakes. The park is approx. 1100 acres so theres plenty of room to find peace and quiet.
The THTB's used to help maintain the trail and SCOTT T was one of the OG's that helped build alot of stuff out there. They did a great job and Im still riding their work. The park hasnt done much in terms of trail work since. I cut/clean drains but only about once a month if at all. Its shared use(horses
) and costs $7 to ride($4 for park entrance, $3 for trail pass
unless you know the secret entrance).
Ive been trying to get our Director and Asst. Director fired up about getting more bikes out there but I've had no luck yet...
