Disc golf?

Print Post

I took my two boys ( 4 & 6 ) out to Renni for a little disc golfing the other day and they LOVED it!

I hadn't played in years so I dusted off the old discs and off we went...it's a lot tougher than I remember and/or I'm  just old & way out of practice.

- Any recommendations for a little easier course for me to take them to.

- Where's the best (most economical) place to buy discs...play it again sports? They lost two in 12 holes.  At this $ rate, this could rival my mtb addiction  Cheesy

Thanks!
Steve

I walk Squirrel Lake frequently with my 2 yo, it doesn't seem too bad. It's in the woods but the course seems pretty wide open.

This looks like a good resource:

there's a small course at the school on Seneca (near BYT), and it looks to be beginner friendly. if you PM RX4, he might bring his kids, and meet y'all for a round.

Alpine Ski Center in Charlotte has the best selection of discs new and used.

charlottedgc.com is a great resource.

Up north here Bailey Rd park has a very beginner friendly course.

Hornets nest and Renni are both quite difficult with lots of woods, long holes and tight fairways.

Putter,

Real easy course on Seneca at Wedgewood in Madison Park. Very kid friendly. Also next step up is Kilbourne just off of Central.

+1 on Squirrel Lake, and it has a cool greenway at the back of the park if you want to ride bikes after....or you can combine with a trip to FJB

Thanks for all the info!
I think we'll try the Madison Park course and Squirrel Lake next.

Squirrel Lake is fun. Elon Park is awesome too. There are 3 courses of varying difficulty so kids and adults both can have a good time. If you need discs check out Play It Again Sports in the McMullen Creek Shopping Center on Hwy 51. They have used discs for like $5-$10. I lose mine alot when I play courses with alot of water on them. Sucks losing a $20 disc first time you play with it.

If your up North. The Signal Hill/soccer field course is hip. I don't know how you feel about big box stores. But Dick's and Sports Academy sell kits and such

Agree on Play it Again.  Was in there and they had tons of used discs on the cheap, including a few with "Banjo" written on the back in sharpie.

First Flight Bike stocks about 200 Innova discs plus bags, markers, videos.........

Up this way, Bailey Road Park is definitely a short, beginner friendly course.  The Statesville Soccer complex has 2 nine hole courses.  The soccer side is fairly open while the back nine at the mountain bike trail are a little more difficult.  Stumpy Creek and the Bridges course are both much longer and definitely much less beginner oriented.

Stop in and see us for more details.
