Tree down @Sherman

Rode last night around 630pm so you probably already know and may have already taken care of it but tree down about 1/4 mile after the berms section right before  tight turns before fire road to RC.  Will  require chainsaw.
I cleared as many of the branches and other debris as I could from the trail..

Thanks

I got the tree up and did some serious weed eating this afternoon with the help of Barry.

Another tree down at end of roller coaster. Big tree that will have to be navigated around.

I was riding and started at 1130a and it was clear with clouds then I started hearing some big thunder BOOMS but it never rained while I was there.  When I got to the parking lot me and Enoch's truck were the only cars in the lot.  Then I got home (concord) and it look like it just stormed like crazy!!  But while I was at Sherman no rain today, not sure about after I left though..

I got a lap in, trails in good shape. It got a little spritz, that never made it thru the canopy.

After I finished my lap I decided to skip # 2, so I took my little chain saw and cut in a escape route around the tree on the Roller Coaster. The EXIT  will be on your right as you approach the downed behemoth. It should be rideable. I had no tools to rake it in or dress it up. Feel free to take a hard rake to it and clean it up a little.

THe crown of the treee is in one of the berms on the Main Loop that is close to the ROller Coaster Section. I cut a temperary route around it as you approach the mess.

THere is cluster of tress in that area. I don't recomend hacking on it. THere are a couple trees that may have some tension on them. I would hate to see someone hurt.

Just a FYI...

That was the largest/oldest tree on the property. "According to Meck Co. Natural resources" it was the 3rd largest of its species registered in the state. We got lucky it fell up the fire road and not across the trail.

Sad bummer...Old trees die hard. I'd hate to see us lose that State Champion Sourwood out there.

I know the tree - I always liked taking a good look at that monster when going by. Real shame that it came down.  Cry

Oh...I know the one you're talking about. That was a monstrous big tree. Hate to see it go down. In answer to someone's question, it was an oak. Can't remember for sure, but I'm almost positive a white oak. If not, it was a red oak. Pretty sure a white oak.

Tree has been cut out of the berm section.

Many thanks to Oden for going out @ 7:00a.m. this morning and clearing it out for everybody.

I slipped out to Sherman for quick afternoon lap. The curve where the tree fell across can be quite intimidating. If you come in there hot and commited  all you can see is tree limb debri until your in the banked curve. Really gave me the "Willies".

Anybody else notice this?

I finally got a chance to get on the bike yesterday; first ride in I can't remember. BIG THANKS to Vasco for the weedeating...what a huge improvement. I've been wanting to get to that, but with about one ride in the last month this has not been a good year for biking or helping with the trail.

Anyway, I was wrong on the tree...it's a red oak.
