Ok, so worker-rider and I were just out at byt this morning doing some misc work and ATTEMPTING to take out the nest in the dead tree right before the triple wooden plank roller.

THESE THINGS ARE HUGE

...and now pissed...

We went through 5 cans of wasp killer and maybe made a dent.
I know we need to go back at night to catch them all in the hive...

We've cordoned off the area with caution tape.

DO NOT CROSS THE CAUTION TAPE

I have a corpse and I'll try to get a size comparison photo so you know what is out there, but

Weird, we were right there this morning. We even stopped to fool around a few times on that feature and we did not see them! Maybe they were out and about. Thanks for taking care of them!

NO JOKE!! Those bastards are large and pissed off!! JR you are one the crazyiest mfr that I know or the dumbest. Laying on the ground in front of that nest is NOT my idea of fun and firing posion into it NOT ME! Will go in Tuesday morning and see what it looks like. They fly by like B-29s, anyone out there know what the hell these stingy things are called? Got taged in the shoulder and the armpit stinger left a nice hole in both BASTARDS! Dont ride past tape not worth the risk. You have been WARNED!! Also thanks for the help from the 9 of you guys to move that large piece of wood on Saturday and JR for your bravery Sunday.

Someone could be seriously allergic to the hornets and go into anaphylactic shock if they get nailed.
F'n idiot...

Really hope it was no one from this group

I'm going to go in and hit them after dark tomorrow after the diva ride.
Hopefully it'll be done with after that.

When I saw it the first time I thought it the tape was related to the rather strong sewage smell today.  Glad I avoided it.

And worker-rider, whatever the hell you were creating with that chainsaw when I stopped to ask about the tape today looked awesome!

Hornets are still alive and kicking. Checked nest with a log today and they came out. Didnt stick around to see how many just ran like a scared little boy! JR and I are going back after them tonight. If this dosent work we might wench the tree out. It is dead anyway. 6 more cans of hornet killer to lay on them!! Again PLEASE turn at tape or you could be seriously hurt or worse if you are allergic. Looks like a murder scene outside the nest on the ground lots of dead hornets around base of tree.

Went out tonight and dumped 6 more cans on them. Thanks JR for getting them again. If this dosent work we are going to pull the tree down. Please leave tape up until we get rid of them.

Thanks guys!

FYI - A few may have tried to relocate after the first attempt.  We saw 2-3 aggressive ones near the very end of that section a good ways after the caution tape, when you come around the corner and can see the road through the woods, you go over a pile of rocks and kind of back towards the woods.  There is a dead tree on the left there, we didn't stick around to inspect though.   

May have just been a couple further away from the nest that were pissed off but I'd keep your eyes open there as well.  We walked the few yards to the road and rode on into the other side.

I was out this evening and made a point to stop by the "infected area".  after much testing I found the tree to be clean of hornets.  I took down the tree and the only thing left is the stump.  the nest is dead.

Thanks Kit.  I guessing you obviously scouted and nothing was moving before going all in on that one...

W-R or myself will be out there this afternoon, and if indeed everything is clear, we'll pull the tape down.

I just want to confirm that the hive didn't possibly move 100 feet as mentioned above...

I didn't check a thing.  I just started up on the hill in high gear on my bike and rammed that tree as hard as I could, helmet first.  I just wish somebody else had been around to video it.   Cheesy
