Klein Mantra wManitou Fork Issues

I have an OLD Klein Mantra with the old Manitou elastomer <sp> fork.

I was thinking about bringing it out of the attic and putting it back into service for the wife.  All is working normal but I recall the Manitou fork being seized.  (or at least not compressing well) (or maybe I'm just use to current air forks like my SID.) ;]  (either way just based on its age, I'm sure it could use some love...)

1. Any suggestions for rebuilding such an old fork?  (if parts are even available)
2. Or am I better off replacing? (but if I recall way back in the day, these were not a standard steerer tube size)

Anyone have one of these in the past that did any fork work or have any suggestions?

I lusted for the bike when I really started to get into MTB.  Then my buddy got one and I didnt want to have the same bike so I waited and finally Fisher came out with their Sugar series.  I dont know if that is good or bad, but if I had that thing the frame would be mounted on a wall.

You could also turn it on its side and use the top tube for a dinner tray for guests  Cool

I'm the proud owner of one of these things also.  I haven't ridden it in a couple of years though.  You can try to grease the fork though the little ports first to try to free it up.  I have a pdf of the service model for the one that is on my bike if you want, send me a pm.

Heres mine.

That was actually my first Mantra.  I love carbon, so when they came out with...  I snapped it up.  Actually just sold it about 5yrs back.  If you thought the first boom was big, this was even bigger...  Whole lot of carbon there...  I actually sold it to someone here in NC.  That thing was pristine when I sold it...  Wonder if its being used by someone here... Huh Anyone see it on a local trail?  (is one of those that you definitely don't miss if you did)

I think yours was the second or third year by that paint and when they started coloring the rear triangle different, but looks to be the same fork.  Im worried that if I disassemble the elastomers would disenegrate, and I would not be even able to put it back together.  Ill look at your manual (PMd), but I dont recall mine having a grease port, but maybe i just missed it.  That might be the ticket.  Thanks.

I think your year they started moving towards standardization too.  Do you know what size steerer tube you have?

If that doesnt work, Ill hit the cycle paths link.  (almost scared what they will charge for a rebuild kit from there. (even MO))  Thanks.

Mine is a 1 1/8 headtube I think.  I've got a buddy with the carbon one like what you posted up.  He bought it the first year it came out from Cool Breeze if I'm not mistaken.  He still rides it.

Surprisingly enough, I might actually have that exact fork with perfect elastomers.
Some goofball cut the steer tube down too far.
I planned on finding a new steer tube & crown, but never got around to it.
