Lake Norman today?

It was pouring in southeast Charlotte this morning so thinking about heading to LKN in a couple hours. I'm hoping the sun will have the place dried up and ready to ride by 2. Anyone live up that way?

Monbo was pretty dry yesterday, so if anything the trails soaked up the rain and they should be in good shape

Mikey, you should have come up for a ride today. I got there a little before 8am and cut the tree on Hawk Loop. Walked over to Norwood to check the SAR sign numbers. Then worked on Laurel till 2pm and would have worked longer, but my water disappeared for some reason. Boy was it HOT! The trails were tacky but not wet.

Rode from 3-5 yesterday, not a drop of rain and the trails were in great shape. Hit all of Laurel/Wildlife area. Fast and flowy, nice way to break up the usual WWC trips.

To be honest it sux but O'well. I did manage to get in 23 mile there yesterday. It was a little warm out but the trails were in great shape.

Last weekend when I was weed eating the trail in and out of Wildlife, Casey said riders were asking for more miles, now you have 2 extra miles to get to Monbo and 2 to get back to the parking lot, everyone is complaining about it. 2.5 miles to Wildlife.
It wasn't a little warm yesterday, it was HOT! At least, you got to ride yesterday, but I didn't.

How about the area across the road from the Monbo trailhead, from the bridge to the group camping area?  I do not believe there are any existing hiking trails...  adding another couple of loops would just about fill the card at LNSP!

If I remember correctly, Casey said that is all the mbt trail at LNSP when we finished with Wildlife area. I don't think I would want to maintain any more miles of trail.

There had originally been a trail phase planned to the right side of the park near the park entrance (across State Park Road from the Laurel Loop).  We ran into issues with this possibly being the first choice for a visitor center.  The state then purchased the 249 acre parcel that became the Fallstown, Fox and Wildlife Loops which became an easier place to build.  Obviously, the visitor center was moved to the current parking lot so that land is still vacant.  There was also some layout work done on a potential loop on the opposite side of State Park Road from the Monbo Loop.  We ran into issues with the proximity to ranger housing so that was abandoned.

The DENR declared 30.5 miles was plenty of trail and cut us off.  The issue was maintenance.  With the occasional wind/snow storms that bring down a bunch of trees, 30 miles is a lot to maintain.
