Trailblazer trail crawl

So I am going to try a new adventure….I am going to attempt to ride all the Tarheel Trailblazer trails back to back. Only the trails built/maintained by the Blazers so no WWC or Anne Springs etc. I live down south so my plan is to start up North and work my way down so I end near my house (convenient for me). Anyone is welcome to join me for any portion you want. You can join at any time and bail at anytime.  Smiley

My plan is something like this:
Lake Norman
Signal Hill
Fisher
North Meck
Southwest District*
Renaissance
BYT/Park Rd/Marion Diehl
Francis Beatty
Sherman.

*About Southwest District….I am not too keen on riding there alone so if no one ends up joining me for that part, I will likely skip it.

It’s possible I might not be able to fit it all in during daylight but I’m going to give it a shot and see what happens. I will be riding a social pace but will do very little if any stopping in order to try to fit it all in.

There are two parts I need help with if anyone wants to lend a hand….Signal Hill because  I have never ridden there and don’t even know where is it and then also the BYT/Park Road/Marion Diehl part. I know there is a way to link them all together but I can’t remember how to do it so if anyone can come and lead that, that would be totally awesome. Climber or Worker-rider if you are reading this maybe?  Wink

Right now I am shooting for Sept 13th or if that gets rained out I will do the following weekend Sept 20th or 21st. Post up if you think you might want to join – or if this ends up being a solo quest that is totally cool too.  Smiley

That is Rad, I would be up for some of the starting legs, depending how my body holds up. Getting back into the sport, do what I can.

If you can give me an approximate time and text me on your way, I'll ride SWDP with you (again, still no problems out there) as well as Renni.

I'll PM you some details.

Cool. I know you are an early riser also so my plan is to hit LN first thing - I believe it opens at 7 so riding about 7:15, 7:30 latest.

Awesome, thanks! I know there have been no problems there and I don't mean to imply that it is dangerous there or add to the perception that it is dangerous, it's just kind of unfamiliar and remote to me so if something were to happen I would be pretty stuck out there.

Come on out and ride whatever you want.  Smiley

I do believe that Doug and I will help you on your vision quest. Not sure if we can keep up with you. But we will try. Just let me get finished with the next 2 miles I have flagged out currently. Just give us a round about time so we can meet up. Let us know what we should bring to keep you up and running.

Btw have you added up the mileage? I think you have just created your own dirty century or half century ride. LNSP alone is good for 25, SWDP 2.5 per lap, Renaissance is 6, Fisher Farm is 4.5, Sherman Branch is 11.5 etc. BYT is fairly long, and if you added in WWC I bet you could get in 100.

Emily, I think the rangers don't unlock the gates before 8am.

And about the same on the car...  I remember doing a "Rat Ride" of sorts a few years ago and it was a long day of riding and a ton of driving.  I think we did Fisher, N Meck, Catawba, Renni, Beatty, and maybe Sherman?  It was around Labor Day and we started soon after the sun came up and were done right around dinnertime.  I do think we took our sweet time, though.

This sounds 'sick'.

And, I mean that in a very bad way.

I enjoy mountain biking for the fun it brings me, not the pain that skinny wheelers enjoy always plotting a route that only goes uphill.

I love finishing a trail and then crackin open an adult rehydration liquid.  If you did that after each leg of this masochistic adventure, you'd need Uber to shuttle you to the next leg.

I'm in!

Maybe she can be your designated driver, and we'll see how far you can get.

Do they still have the poo rails at BYT? Cause I'd pay good money to see 182 try to ride them after 5 trails and 10 beers...

I'll split the Youtube advertising revenues with you. You in?

Should start at Signal hill first, isnt that farther north anyways? And looks to be a good warm up trail?

Gates have been opening 7am lately, I rolled through the gates 7:05am this past Saturday. I agree Signal Hill should be first for the sake of loosing drive time.

I could do Signal Hill first but have never ridden there so was trying to do something familiar first in case no one wanted to get up that early, I could ride alone. If someone wants to meet at Signal Hill first thing I could probably do that....

But on the flip side how late has anyone ridden Lake Norman? Their closing time is now 10pm through Sept. Does that mean you can continue to ride after dark? If so, it might make more sense to end up North and that way if night falls I/we can keep on going. I have already confirmed that we can for sure ride Fisher at night.

At LNSP you are supposed to be off the trail by 8:30, and out of the park by 9. I think it gets dark around 8 so a little night riding time. I used to ride Signal Hill with the gang from First Flight on their social rides so I know my way around there. I am not sure what the trail status of Signal Hill is though, I saw a thread a while back on here saying it needed some bushwhacking. I was first out at LNSP Saturday, and I ate 1235124561326 spiders.

From what I hear, word on the street is the trail has been getting a lot of love from some volunteers recently so it should be in better shape than in the past. So how early would you want to ride Signal Hill if we go that route?

I am thinking the 13th but have to see what the weather does. Obviously it can’t happen if any of the trails are closed.

I can be at Signal Hill at the crack o' dawn. I will be wearing a bee keeper suit for the spiders.

I may try join you for the last five legs or some of the last five trails depending on the times you expect to hit them.

This sounds just crazy enough to make me want to be a part of it.  I know I can't do the whole thing due to time constraints, but I'll be there for the early to midafternoon madness.  Cheesy
