Trail status is hard coded with open now that the website has been revamped.

This is not a correct statement.

It is not hard coded and the individual trail statuses are maintained by different folks.  Some of them haven't updated the statuses.  I'll bring it up to the staff.

I think Robert C was being sarcastic. He leans in that direction. Smiley

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.

Sometimes you have to use your own judgement on your own local trails.  Obviously there are some trail systems that have a governing body or gate (sherman, WWC, LKN state park etc.) and the trail status is very useful for those systems.  I feel it's especially useful so people don't drive long distances and find a muddy trail.

For more neighborhood oriented trails the trail status along with the 24hr rule is a great guide.  There have been many instances where one of my local trails was marked as open but when I got on trail I found it was too wet to ride and I was damaging the trail, so I turned around.  Likewise I've checked on a local trail when it was marked closed only to find it in great shape.  You've got to use your head, be respectful of the 24hr rule and respectful of the trial conditions.

Other riders will keep you honest too, you don't want to be that guy rutting up the trail.

Geeze, forget to stick a smiley after a statement and folks get all literal.  Here, fixed it.
