Kiawah or Charleston MTB Trails???

Looking to go to Kiawah this summer for a family vacation.  I know that they have many paved bike trails, but was wondering about the possibility of any good MTB trails to go to.  Maybe even the 1/2 hour drive into Charleston area.  If anyone knows of a site like ours that has trail information, just point away.  Thanks, John

They love it when you rip around the golf courses on your MTB jumping the t-boxes and sand traps.  Cool

OK, had to laugh at that one!!!!   Grin  Discouraged when I went on MTBProject website and basically showed nothing, well maybe will just have to go on the beach and maybe some small trails between the beach and the road.

That's what we used to do when we were kids before they built a bmx track... jumping the creek was also a favorite.

Rent a beach cruiser. Paved trails are beautiful to ride on, but don't expect any kind of challenge. FLAT, lots of seniors on hybrids going 1.00765 mph. Wait til low tide and ride up to the north end of the island and explore. Beautiful Island, I worked there 10 years at the golf course. Marrington Plantation is mediocre at best, hour drive at least. Speed limit is 25-35mph on the island, which would make for some good road riding.

Wannamaker or marringtonn in n charleston are really your only options. Not too bad to get to from seabrook.  They are flat bit a rip at high speed. I would compare them to lake Norman without the hills, but they are fun. Check trail status as they close after rain too...

I'm glad that this is an environment where you feel free to fail.

I moved to Charlotte recently from Charleston.   I have to say that Marrington Plantation is worth the trip from Kiawah.  It is 18 miles total and has a moderately difficult section called Foster's Creek.  I can't recommend Wannamaker.

I went to Charleston for a business trip a few months back that allowed me two afternoons of riding and was able to hit both Marrington and Wannamaker.

MTBio is definitely right - Marrington was a LOT of fun to ride. Its a lot of pedalling, with no big climbs or descents, but some really fun flowy sections.

IF you are looking for variety while there, Wannamaker is rideable... but if I had the chance again I'd spend both days at Marrington!

Enjoy!
