Any medics in the house - ACL/Knee

Recovering from ACL/meniscus surgery... been about 9 months and started back up riding fine past month.  Well, yesterday I was riding a very simple green trail where I dropped a chain while riding and unbeknownst I went to power down a pedal stroke, foot slipped right off the pedals and ended up planting pretty hard on my injured/healing leg.  This was very similar to how I tore it in the first place (locked knee/foot flant).  It didn't feel bad at first and I was able to keep riding for another 9miles fine just pedaling.  That said, after I got home and it settled down it started to stiffen up as usual (did this anyways) since surgery.  But later on, the pain set in and I could feel that something is definitely off.  I don't think I tore my acl again as I heard no pop.  I'm hoping it's just a case of hyper extension and not further damage to my acl/meniscus?  That said, I have pain with bending my knee and pain if my knee is bent inwards to inside of my leg.  Will probably go see my ortho doc when the office opens up to get it checked out but if anyone has any medical knowledge I'd be curious to hear your thoughts while I wait.  The impact was partially helped by my seat... upon slipping I ended up dropping onto my dropper seat/post.  The problem is that my dropper has been problematic and ended up dropping thus it did end up dropping me down.  So, although it helped to lessen the impact, it also did end up dropping me down further causing me to fully have to plant a foot instead of a dab like normal... kinda sucks, so gonna let it rest and see how it feels for the next couple of weeks.

The above is about as far as anyone, even an orthopod would go on recomendations with being able to manipulate the knee.  See your Ortho or physical therapist, they are you best bets if the pain persists.

Pretty much what the others said.  Sounds like you may have knicked the meniscus a bit.  Did that myself a year after ACL/MCL/meniscus injury.  And RICE.  Lots of Advil. Smiley

Yeah, I've been resting it.  Feeling little better today.  Knee feels solid when I try to shift the bottom/top bones.  That said, may have done some damage to the meniscus.  I will probably go get it checked out next week.  Wanted to see how it felt this week after some rest.  Definitely feels better but still far from good.

For me, meniscus tears are not uncommon.  Didn't know I had a previous one until after my surgery in 2010.  I apparently had torn the meniscus in my left knee.  They way it was torn (which the Dr. fixed while he was in there) was like a one way valve letting fluid out (Baker's cyst on the back of the knee) but not letting it back in. Tongue

Definitely see your Dr about it but if the swelling goes down with RICE and ROM goes back to normal...ride it like you stole it!  (Or as hard as your wife allows. Wink )

I bought one of these prior to my surgery.  Best $200 I ever spent!  And have had one customer borrow it...twice!  Wink

Yikes... I was researching that system and found a Breg Polar Lawsuit!  I guess the risk is the same with any system?  How long does it last?

I currently have a Shock Doctor 360 system.  Works great with refreezable gel packs and I can get about 40mins of cold therapy.  It's a great product and has been great.  Also with the straps I can customize the fit/feel.  Recomended for the price for sure!

You're at a higher risk of frost bite from a regular, frozen ice pack.  I call BS and I call someone not taking responsibility for the own actions/care.  Mine never got so cold as to even come near any "frostbite".  Roll Eyes  Common sense should dictate that you put a towel between the pack and your skin...just like the warning on any ice pack. I got one of those same machines that Cycle Path had and it was awesome. They are expensive but well worth it. People will sue over pretty much anything these days. Doesn't mean that the product is faulty.

What's amazing is it's only one lawsuit/incident out of thousands/tens of thousands of units sold.  $12.5 million!  Shocked  Wonder how much of that actually made it to the plaintiff and how much the firm raked in...Tongue

If you have half a brain in your head and don't leave it on/fall asleep for hours at a time, you'll reap great benefits from it.  Wink

Rule of thumb with ice that I know has always been 20 minutes on, 1 hour off and repeat.

I'll let you borrow/rent/buy mine if you're interested.  I do payment plans with beer and liquor!  Smiley
