Has anyone been to the trails at Lake James? I like that area and not a long drive but nobody talks about the mountain biking.

a friend of mine has been out there and loved it.

He said its like Sherman but more elevation. It was a while back so I don't remember much just that he liked it!

Thanks. Sherman with more elevation sounds like a good time to be had! Have to get a group ride together and try it. Thanks again.

To me it's like lake norman with more elevation and loads of rollers. Plenty of  opportunities to pump and jump. Zero technical stuff. It's  easy to get to and in a pretty area. My 2 cents

I had a blast at this place it is friggin fast.  Like everyone said not a technical feature in the place but you can tell it was purpose built for speed/flow.  One disappointing thing was there are no views of the lake really.

Yes. Lake Norman with more pumps and rollers.  Very flowy and fast.  Not sure I would say elevation ( only remember 1 real climb ).  Their was a Black option out there, but it turned out to be a 2 foot wide bridge.  Huh

Great SS trail.  Stop to check out the overlook as your diving in before you get to the trail head if you want to see a great view.

Thanks for the info!  Gonna go try it sometime soon. Sometimes you need a break from the technical stuff and satisfy your hunger to ride a good flow trail.

I've been up there twice and have ridden all of the trail. I've always had a good experience, a great place to practice pumping rollers, etc.

Yeah there aren't many roots/rocks but if you go fast enough you will have a real good time. The trail is only like a year old so I'm sure the roots/rocks will come with age and the trail will evolve.

You're going to the Paddy's Creek area of the state park to hit the biking trail head...

Traveling east on I-40: From I-40, take the Nebo/Lake James exit (exit 90) and head north. After a half mile, turn right onto Harmony Grove Road, and follow it for 2 miles to a stoplight. Proceed straight across the intersection and past Nebo Elementary School to a stop sign. Turn right onto NC 126, and follow the signs to the park entrance 4.8 miles on the right.

Traveling west on I-40: From I-40, take the Dysartsville/Lake James exit (exit 94) and head north for 0.5 mile to a stop sign. Turn left onto US 70 and follow it for 1.5 miles. Turn right onto Bridgewater Road and travel 1.2 miles. Turn left onto Benfield's Landing Road, and follow it for 2 miles to a stop sign. Turn right onto NC 126, and follow the signs to the park entrance 0.7 miles on the right.

Morganton has ample offerings for post-ride beer.  Check out Catawba Valley Brewing, Fonta Flora Brewing, and Brown Mountain Bottleworks.  All three are great.

One of the absolute best trails ive been on,  Almost 16 miles of the SMOOTHEST trails around!!  Fast Fun Flow!!!  It is well worth a day trip, only an hour and 20min from CLT. I wish this trail was in the area.  Go ride it and you will love it!
