In between sizes... a little help?

I'm 6'1 barefoot and 6'2" in gear and stuck between a large and XL in Specialized frames. Rode a large around the lot and on the Greenway and it felt fine. About to demo an XL at SB because it felt a little roomier when I went to pick up the large demo. I think that I can ride either equally well. What are the advantages and disadvantages of slightly large or smaller? Advice?

Weight and pedal clearance. Shorter wheelbases will corner better but don't handle bumps as well. I would recommend comfort over anything else though. Confidence in the bike is what really matters.

I would rather be stretched out a little than cramped up any. A bike too small will be nervous and real sensitive to fore and aft movements.

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

I'm on the line between S and M Specialized.  I got the M and I like the size of the bike, feels stable at speed.  Cockpit was a little too long though so shortneed the stem and it made to cockpit feel great and added a little more agility to the bike (easier to lean the bike over hard, quicker steering).

In the exact same boat,  actually have a large and an xl. For me the xl feels a lot better. Can get the large to "fit" but I'm pushing the seat back and lengthening the stem.  But being able to run a shorter stem on the xl is huge as far as I'm concerned.

I am in exactly the same position.  6'1 - 6'2 and can ride either.  At the end of the Day I am usually a little more comfortable on an xL but it varies on the type of bike as well.  On CX type bikes xL.  If its more Gravity oriented then the large feels better.  Ride both and see which one feels better.  That is why demo days are great.

Thanks. Had a blast on the XL at Sherman and Beatty on Saturday - no problem leaning into corners or railing through berms. Handled superb in between the trees and on the sand/roots at Beatty,  so I think it fits.

Went ahead and pulled the trigger - they're building it tomorrow.

I have to change my screen name now.... suggestions?
Huh
