Niner Jet 9 RDO vs. RIP 9 RDO

I am looking to purchase a Niner and going back and forth on the Jet 9 vs. RIP 9 both in the RDO trim.  I mainly ride in the local Charlotte area WWC, Sherman, Rocky River (aka Steve's Place), Sherman Branch, Springs, Beatty.  I need some thoughts on this decision.  Thanks!

So I've had both.  The new Jet9 RDO is super super stiff.  To me it pedaled like a hard tail with the comfort of a FS.  If I could only have one bike and it was between those two it would be the Jet9 RDO.

Thanks for the thoughts!  I am concerned that the AIR 9 may have too much travel for my typical riding conditions.

The Air 9 is a hardtail, did you mean the Rip 9?

I've demoed both of them, and for around here I'd go with the Jet. The Rip seemed ponderous to me for the type of riding that I do, which is very similar to yours. The Jet is basically a race bike though, and handles very quickly. Just something to keep in mind.

I'd take a rip9 over a jet9 personally.... but I don't race and prefer slack headtube angles....

I ride my Air 9 everywhere including Pisgah sometimes.  I have rode the Jet RDO also.  The Jet RDO is an Amazing bike.  Climbs like my hardtail but with all the advantages of full susp.  If I was doing it again I would get the Jet.

The RIP is a very fun bike also, but the steering is slower because of the slacker headtube (that is if you want to turn, you could just point it straight and RIP your own line) still climbs well too

Go Jet9 and throw a 120 on the front if you want it to be a little more playful.

It's fast!

I sat on both and liked the geometry of the RIP 9 better. The Jet 9 is more XC and aggressive. But then again, I tend to prefer the long and slack geo of a trail bike. Not sure you can go wrong either way.

Thank you all for your input!  I have decided to go with the Jet 9.  For the type of riding I do I think it will be the best fit!  Too bad I can't afford to but both  Cheesy

@bikecrazy, I would recommend trying the Jet with a 100mm and 120mm front fork.  With the 100mm, it feels very XC/racer, but with the 120mm it's much more of an all-day rider (trail) bike.  I've got 120mm on mine, and love it.

Niner just announced a $500 discount through Niner dealers on the RIP (full carbon and carbon main triangle versions).  May influence your decision if buying new.

Looks like you made the decision to go with the Jet9 RDO.  FWIW...I love my Jet9 RDO.  Raced it the past couple of years at the TSEpic.  It was like butter!  You made the right choice.

A thread similar to this can be found on the MTBR forum under Niner-bikes. Link as follows:

I have a 2015 Jet 9 RDO with a 120mm Pike on it. Coming off a Norco Sight Killer b which is a bit slacker I can tell you the geometry does not feel XC racy to me but it flips through tight turns super easy. I love it, very comfortable all day riding type bike. Climbing grip on the techy stuff is great. My only gripe about the bike is that you have to watch the pivot bolts and make sure they are torqued to spec and clean or you will get creaking. Took a while to hunt them all down, creaks from the internal cable routing happens too but once I got them all sorted out things have stayed quiet. Can's say enough about the ride quality, i think the Pike really sets it off.
