Giant Pistol 2

I have an old  Giant Pistol 2 I got last year. I love the bike so far. My only issue is with the brakes. They slow me down, but it takes longer than I think it should. I replaced the pads thinking it would fix the issue and they still suck. I've been wanting to upgrade a few parts. Any ideas on a new brake set (will I need to rotors?)

I also want to upgrade the front fork.

Agreed.  Buy the nicest level you can and ride on.  XT's are very nice, but even the Deore's are fine and have ridden several bikes w/ them on that had zero problems.

Thanks! I'm looking into them now. I figured it could be something simple I could upgrade myself. Would it be a good idea to upgrade rotors as well?

Unless you are familiar with bleeding hydraulic brakes, you will have to have a shop or someone with the tools do it for you.  I ride Avid BB7 mechanicals on all my bikes and I know how to bleed brakes.  I do it for simplicity and have never lacked any stopping power.  XT's are nice but there are a lot of other nice brakes out there.  Just comes down to $$$ and maintenance!

My XTs are somewhat easy to bleed once you've done it a time or 2......It's not brain surgery! practice makes perfect!!! youtube can fix your brains and your brakes. Not to bad mouth scram... Nice Pistola Banjo!

On the "Specials" section at Queen City Bicycles you can get some New Shimano brakes for a killer price of $75.00. Just thought I'd toss that out there for those with brakes that are lacking the ever important stopping power!
