Cheapest place to get an MRI in Charlotte?

Pretty sure I have a partial tear of my bicep and my Dr. referred me out to get an MRI to see how much damage there is. After a quick look around prices are all over the place for similar scans. I have insurance but this is going to come in at or under my deductible. So I'd like to try and save as much as possible.

Does any one have any experience with some fairly priced MRI/ortho shops in the Charlotte area?

I needed a shoulder MRI last month and also was paying all of it out of pocket since I hadn't met my deductible. I called every place I could find and the best I found was Carolinas Imaging Services. They have several locations and it's the same price at all locations. I had mine done at the Huntersville facility. They'll give you a price to the penny over the phone. Mine was going to cost $1400-1600 (they wouldn't be specific) + doctor's charge (they couldn't tell me how much that would be either) at OrthoCarolina's facility (my doctor's at OC). I paid Carolinas Imaging $913 total. No complaints at all and no surprises. I was able to go on a Saturday afternoon.

I think the number I called for a quote was 980.272.4371.

Take a look at this which will hopefully give you a good or better understanding of your possible condition depending on the area from which you are experiencing pain or discomfort.

Be wary. Cheap doesn't always equal good quality. I'm in medicine and some of the cheaper imaging places produce very low quality images. They can be OK based on the body part imaged and the extent of the problem (a  minor problem could be missed). The last thing you want is to drop $900 and have a physician tell you the images are not good enough to make a treatment decision.

This is one of the things I'm worried about. If I choose not to get the image at that specific specialists facility they could easily just claim that the image isn't good enough. It's not like I'll know the difference.

This is where I was referred. I have an appointment this week. Just hoping to be prepared with any information I need to make the best financial decision.

My injury is at the shoulder not the elbow. The odd thing.. I really don't feel any pain at all unless it is at just the right angle with a good bit of pressure. It happened on a Wednesday and I was able to work out that Friday and the following Monday. (not to mention two 15-20 mile rides.) I didn't think it was anything serious but you can see there is something wrong just by looking at it. I have a gap/notch in my bicep between the peak and the shoulder.

Oh and if you're curious, per Doctors orders, I have stopped lifting till I see the specialist.

Thanks for the reply's.

I had my shoulder done at Orthocarolina by Roy Majors 2 years ago.  He's a sports Medicine doc.  No nonsense, quick to PT and recovery to get you back to your sports.  Highly recommend.....

Your shouldn't worry if you do your homework. Carolina's Imaging is a joint venture between Carolina's Heathcare System and Charlotte Radiology. Both of those are fairly reputable organizations I believe. In addition, your doctor has to send instructions to the imaging company, so this is his opportunity to let you know if he is concerned about the place. Also, I can only relate my experience, but my doctor at OrthoCarolina had no problems with the MRI from Carolina's Imaging.

I'm not trying to sell Carolina's Imaging, but you asked for lower cost recommendations and I think I'm the only one that offered one other than telling you to be safe and go where your doctor is employed.
