Throw all those old crusty 11 speed cassettes, shifters, chains and derailleurs away Shocked....we've got another gear coming.  Doubt many people would ever need more than this, it covers the range of most 2x10's.

The range is the key here.  For anyone who rides lots of fire roads, or rides paved roads from their house to the trail, this is awesome.  For most strictly-trail riding it's probably unnecessary.

I'm running 1x10 with an 11-42 cassette, and for trails it's perfect and all the range I need (30x42 is super low), but spinning out at 20MPH would suck if where I rode was different.  Going from 11-42 or 10-42 to a 10-50 cassette essentially allows you to jump up 6 teeth on your front sprocket and have practically the same lowest gear, or 4 teeth and have a gear even lower than your 42 cog gets you now, but you gain tons of high end.

Whenever I get the upgrade itch (and it trickles down a bit) I'll probably jump on.  I've been saying the same for 1x11 but I suppose I can skip that now.

2X10 is nearly perfect... reduce that to 1x12 and I am in.  I was intrigued by 1x11 but not enough to convert...

now make it cheap...

It's about the same price XX1 originally launched at when it was the first 1x11 system.   That came out around 3 years ago, give or take a few months, and it's already down to around X9/X7 price points with the GX product line.  I'd guess that 1x12 will trickle down about the same.

Shimano will never catch up fully in the 1x market until the adapt the xd driver which I don't see happening since Sram developed it.

This is amusing. If you are comfortable spending a grand+ on the most replaced parts on your bike, shy of maybe tires, congratulations.

I'm happy with my front derailleur and the long list of things that I'll spend the rest of my money on.

Im holding out for 1x13....

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

I've never needed more than 11-36 with a 32, even in the mountains. I might get dropped on flat gravel but I'll catch ya on the climbs. Should make all that 1x10 stuff super cheap. I wonder how much a 24pk of XT 10 speed cassettes goes for?

Sram Eagle? Shimano may have to lawyer up!

I've been riding XX1 since it came out Spring of 2013 and will have to say that for a 1x drivetrain it pretty much beats everything else hands down.  Even the the XTR 11 spd. SRAM really nailed it with the way the rear derailleur moves only on a horizontal plane and not on both/at an angle.  Pretty much eliminates ghost shifting and stiffens up the rear D.

Never had as smooth a shifting drive train either.  Even better than XX 2x10 or XTR.

But the price on the rear XX1 cassette...DANG!  Shocked

Honestly for the CLT area I never feel a need for more than the 32t front and 11-34 cassette I have.  I can see the benefit in areas w/ lots of elevation, but around here soon as I went 1x10 I've never seen a need for anything else.  The only way I'd buy 1x11 (or 1x12 now) was if it came on the bike I purchased.  Nothing wrong with options though.

Well sure you don't need anything more around here, but the mountains are so close I ride there about as much as I ride here.

On another note if you have a 11s you have more options as far as gearing goes. you can upgrade to a 34 up front, get more gear down low and have the same climbing gear as you have now. It's not all on the climbing side of things but that is how most people look at it.

That's what I am excited about.  Now at a 32 front on my 10 speed I get a little spinny but don't have the legs to step up to a 34.

You never will with that attitude! haha

That is the best (and only) part of 1x11, 12, 13, 14? that is appealing. Not that I'm going after KOMS on gravel roads but it is nice to not spin my brains out riding with those old 2x10 diehards with their 38t/26t chainsets.

I just rode 32x21t throughout dupont with my only trouble going up cedar rock the wrong way. I'm not sure I can imagine a 50t.  That's more than twice as many t's.

If you're sitting in the seat and peddling it's too high a gear, or you're riding a road bike.  Smiley

If you see a guy riding around without a seat like the ultimate weight weenie, it's probably me.

One day I forgot I had taken it off....

I wont make that mistake again.  Undecided
