Folks, if you haven't ever raced or haven't raced this series before, give it a try!  Neal does a very good job with these races.  Registration is now super simple and the computerized timing allows you to view your results immediately.  You can even get a printout with your lap times and finish position onsite.  There are awards for the top 3 in all classes.  Quality racers at all levels, too.  Always a good time to be had!

..No affiliation - just my two cents from a guy who probably rides bike too much.

No ties here either, but I have ran three seasons here and there of this series.  Its an awesome series and a lot of fun!  If I wasn't trying to over come a knee injury I'd be out there right now.  Go check it out.  Real low key and no pressure.  All different levels of guys out there so don't feel intimidated.

Yes, very well organized for a mid week race, impressive work! And the cost to race isn't too bad either Wink

You can find USNWC here (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

They are usually on recesonline.com long before Neal posts his link with official results.

Hey guys! I'm new here to the site but look forward to meeting some of y'all in the near future. I'm new to mountain biking but I'm also competitive! It been looking into this series and just wanted to know what setups most guys were using. Are most running hard tail 29ers or does it really matter what type of bike you run at these races. I'm looking hard a 27.5 hard tail XC bike and didn't know if I would be putting myself at a disadvantage right from the start? Thanks for any input on this!

Meh, you'll see some of everything.  I run full rigid 29'er.  Most run 29'ers full suspension, but plenty of competitive 650's and hardtails.  Anyone who's been around awhile probably raced these same trails on a 26" hardtail at some point.  Race what you have.

Thanks! I'm 6'1" and after a lot of research it seems most guys over 6' are comfrotable on a 29er so I think that's where I'll be going. I think I may be out at the race this weds just to watch and see how everything is run. Good luck to any of you that may be racing this week!

Thanks for that info and thanks for letting me know the race is next week!!! I guess I just need to get on a few and ride to see what I like best. I have a million questions going through my head just like every other noob out there! But the wheel size and if I want to go XC or Endero are the main question I need to figure out! Again thanks for the help!

Best word of advice I can give you is to go to as many demos as you can.  I drank the coolaid and was set on buying a 29er; while I was there I tried their 27.5 bike in the same category and ended up buying the 27.5 (this was all after trying several different brands).

As far as travel it depends on what and where you are going to ride 99% of the time.  My new bike is 120 (came off 140); and its more that sufficient for local riding.  I think that range is referred to as "Trail" now so I would say neither XC or Enduro lol.

Different bikes are built for different purposes - I kept my 140 bike, I think most people end up with more than 1 bike =D
