Shocking announcement!

Well shocking for most of you who know me anyways.  The rest of you really wont care.

Btalley owns a 29er! Shocked  Shocking, I know!  I hope you didn't spit out your beer all over your keyboard when you read that!

I bought KevinB's old steed, 2012 Spec. Stumpy Comp 29er.  First ride went well today.  Getting a feeling for those big hoops didn't take too long but it will take some getting use to.  It's so different than the Intense Uzzi I have rode for the past 5 years.  I will let the Uzzi rest for a while unless its time to have some real fun.

I have ridden very little over the past year due to work mostly.  Hopefully I will be back in the saddle more this year.

Cheesy I am shocked and astounded. Billy Talley went to the dark side. I'm feeling a little nauseous

Welcome, now when will you get a 27.5" 1x12 and complete your training?

That's ok, Billy! The last month that I lived in NC, I rode a 29r single speed and loved it. It is hard to believe you are on a 29r after all the comments about them. Just goes to show how our opinions change.

Billy, do you remember the demo ride at LNSP when I demoed a 29r Trek? It was David Rodden, Tom F., you and me riding Monbo. That was my first ride on a 29r bike. Like you say, it takes a little getting used to the handling of the larger wheel. I'm surprised I remembered that because I'm a lot older now.

BigBikeMike, as you know all of my comments were mostly all fun and games but it's just a matter of time until we all give into some of these industry changes.

TomF, I know news like this is hard to take.  I wanted to make sure you knew before seeing it for yourself.  You have to be prepared for that sighting.  If you told someone that you saw Btalley on clown wheels, people would have the same reaction if you told them you witnessed Bigfoot riding a unicorn.

Screeming Knees, just know you have a bike to ride that fits you when you are in town!  I need to plan a trip to Fort Collins.  I hope you guys are doing well.

Thanks for the few warm welcomes. I will be on a 27.5 one day but likely once the next big thing comes around and makes them less desirable. Maybe 36" wheels or who knows, maybe 26's will become popular again.

KevinB wasn't riding his stumpy anymore so I gave it a try.  It took a lot for me to pull the trigger but with the 27.5's out now, 26's are getting hard to find and older 29ers like this are hitting the market. Not to mention 27.5's are still very expensive. The wife is not too happy about the whole two bike thing, need to slowly introduce her to the idea of 3! I will give this a shot for a while to see how much I really enjoy it. It will take some getting use to.

I remember that day, I got my ass kicked by you on that thing. How is life in snowshoe?

You'll have to load the Uzzi and come see for yourself. I'm holding you to your promise that you will come up and ride this summer!

Now I gotta find BF and the unicorn somewhere in Uwharrie.

I still love my 26" Nomad.  Definitely getting harder and harder to find 26" parts anywhere.  I've ridden both 29" and 27.5" and can say I don't like them as much for an all mountain setup.  Maybe one of these days when I'm forced to try something new they'll have figured out how to make them feel like they handle as quick as a 26".  Until then, I'll stick to my guns!

I'm sure you'll get used to the bigger wheels.   Smiley

You're crazy Billy... took me the past year to come around to 29ers, but my stumpy 29er is by far the best bike I've ever owned... better up, down, and on flats than my nomads ever were...

Hope you're building up something nasty!
