Going to be heading down there soon and could not find any trails to speak of. Anyone know of any trails down there? If no public trails any private as I would donate to a trail fund (pm me)?

My wife had a seminar in Savannah a few years ago and I didn't find any trails either. I did lots of walking and exploring. It's a pretty interesting place!

I grew up in Statesboro/Brooklet which is about 45 miles from Savannah.  Take a skimboard/SUP because that is it as far as fun.  Sight seeing is also really cool and you can carry open container so that helps.  Have a great time but no riding to speak of...

Looks like another organ donor! Why do people ride without a helmet? Go figure!

Hilton Head is a tough place to ride even if you have a road bike.  They use bike paths to isolate bikes from the main traffic, but in reality it makes you invisible to cars and at risk at every intersection.  If you don't mind sticking to the paths you can get some good mileage in albeat slow.  There are some roads that you can stitch together and get some miles, but nothing really substantial on the island.  the beach is nice to ride on, generally plenty of beach to ride and avoid people, but no trails.  Off the island and close to Savannah there seems to be more road routes, but still seems pretty unfriendly to biking.

Yeah that's all about what I expected. Anyone know where that trail is on the YouTube video. Even if I find it looks like a would get lost about 8 times.

My guess would be this is the trail you see in the video

3 miles.  Could probably lap it 5 times and get a decent ride in.

Coming in a little late on this but years ago there were some pretty good trails on Hunting Island, about a 30-45 minute drive. Stop in at The Bike Doctor bike shop. James Bradford (owner) has been open for over 20 years and should be able to point you to whatever trails are around.

I tend to always find it difficult to find mountain bike trails at the beach... Undecided

I will confirm the trails @ Hunting Island, although I rode there in 97 or '98 so I don't know its current status but I'm sure a quick Internet search will provideo some clues.  I do recall there was abt 8 miles of very fun, undulating singletrack which is accessible  from the campgrounds.

I rode Hunting Island a couple of years ago. It was a fun trail. But fairly easy. Not a lot of elevation. There was a sign that said something to the fact of Beware of Alligators. Savannah and Tybee Island allow alcohol on the beach and through the town. No bottles though. Hilton head has one of the best systems of bike paths. You can go anywhere on your bike. Which in my opinion is a true vacation. Park your car and leave it for your stay. I remember a killer climb on a bridge. But that was on my cruiser Wink

Hello,

This is a very late response but this is for any future mountain bikers that are visiting the Savannah area and looking for some where to ride.

Now Savannah and anywhere on the East coastal regions are flat flat flat. So, expect little to no elevation. You are just going to have to get your workout and speed from the strength of your legs by pumping as hard as you can.

I have been living in Savannah for school for the past 2 years (living back in the Charlotte area for summers) and I discovered 4 main placed I like to bike. I will start of with the best.

Skidway Island is a great place to visit if you are going to Savannah. From huge river side houses to the jungle like mixture of pine trees to palmettos Skidway is a nice place to get some peace and quite. Now, there is a park there called Skidway National Park that has some nice trails but its $5 a visit and family hikers do not expect a biker coming around a blind corner at speeds; and some areas have signs that say no biking. There is somewhere better. take the 2nd left after the road to Skidway National Park and take that road to a fork and keep right and at the end of that road you will find yourself at Priest Landing. This trail goes along the river bank and is about 3 miles. it is not a technically loop so you will have to come back the same way you came. The ticket here is to say right at all the forks. It is mostly single track and someone keeps this place tightly and nice. You will find some logs to roll over, small bridges, and some quick creek bed descents and accents. The scenery here is pretty nice, too. NOTE: there are no arrows but you will go along the river bank so it is not that hard to know where you are at. When you get to the end you will come to a drive way to some marine center, just turn around a keep right(if you you run into it again turn around and take a left at the fork). On the way back you get close to the road. if you end up at the road turn around and take the left at the fork (instead of right).

Next is Tom Tripplet Park. This is on the other side of Savannah at a Park. It is a purpose build trail for mountain bikes. A loop at only 1.5 miles. I would say it is very flat but the amount of roots on the trail categorizes it as bumpy. Because of how flat and bumpy it is it seems a lot longer than 1.5 miles. by halfway you will be looking for the exit. The trail is well marked and taken care of. The major downside is the roots and flooding. If it rains the day before give it 2 days to dry up or you will be swimming the trail. Oh, and make sure you have a snake bite med kit. there are some crazy big water moccasins on this trail. A friend of mine was riding it and saw one in his path. Without time to brake he jumped off his bike has he saw it snap around to bite his frame when the ghost riding bike ran it over. I have had scary encounters with Water Moccasins in Savannah trails and they are not to be messed with; deadly and they stand their ground.

3rd is a gravel path alongside the river and road to Tybee Island called McQueen's Island Trail. If you was some miles along with exposure to wind and the sun this is the place. I usually park at the entrance of Fort Pulaski and go from there and back. It is just a nice open greenway the goes for like 6 miles to a dead end.

4th, Savannah National Wild life refuge. This is actually in South Carolina just over the bridge. It is a 3 mileish loopish (if you dont mind riding on the road a bit) gravel road through the marshy wetlands. Most people take the cars through it to see wild life. It a nice ride if you are a secret roadie on the inside. But make sure you go fast because the amount of bugs that swarm you at stand still is crazy. oh, and mind the 10 to 12 foot alligators along the way. They are a good sight to see.

Well thats it for now.
