REMEMBER THIS BIKE...WASN'T IT A STEAL?

FOR SALE: About 3 months ago I bought this bike. Anyone remember this bike on Raleigh MTB?

LESSONS LEARNED: I can't prove it but I am sure the seller knows deep inside but I'll leave it at this and will rest my faith on the fact of karma. When someone drives from near Pinehurst or that area all the way almost to Albemarle to get rid of a bike..there is a good chance it is a shady business. Not to mention sold this 2014 Trek Superbly 8 for only $1,050. I should have suspected some shady business. But it's okay...karma will do its thing. What goes around will come around.

TRIED TO REASON WITH THE SELLER: Trek has lifetime warranty on frame but the seller isn't going to help because he is pissed off. His direct text, "Loose my number or your'e gonna have bigger problem." This to me is communicating a threat but I'm not a lawyer. The great thing about technology, google voice, well...the entire conversation from the purchase was all captured and in safe storage at Google's data center. Had heard the noise at time of purchase but was dark so couldn't see a hair line crack. Had the bike for over two months...nothing but pedaling...and mostly on the greenway or pavement. How did the crack appear you may ask? come to find out after close scrutiny, there was a dent with paint which I never saw before. Either something was dropped on the top tube or it hit something where it produce a small pin hole..almost naked to the eye. Eventually, saw the crack with all the noise I couldn't rule out.

TO THE SELLER: It is okay, I got the bad end of the stick. You got away with $1,050 towards your new trek stash or whatever...that was what you said you were going to buy when you got my money. Guess I lost since there isn't much I can't do except let the biking community know to watch out for shady dealers out there..even if it was not you. Whatever we do, I am sure our conscious will get the best of us. Again, not saying you did anything because that I don't know. Only you and the creator knows what was thought of, what unethical dealing if there were any, etc. I can rest easy knowing I lost my money but I would never sell anything I know could hurt a fellow biker. I am very glad I caught this crack and have stopped riding the bike. So, if you are reading this and if you honestly didn't know about the crack then it is what it is...but if you knew....and sold it...I'm still okay as long as it is well with your soul.

I do apologize for this on this website but this has to be made known and seen by the many honest people who work hard to save up for a bike. One last thing, my post just magically disappear so I am guessing the guy who sold me the bike contacted the administrator to wipe this clean but let it be known, lets be ethical and lets make sure everyone gets a fair shake. My guess is that the seller knows the administrator....only thing I can think of. Again, apologize to bore you all with this.

If it's too good..probably so...should have learned.

Yep, it was a steal alright.

The component set is worth almost that price.

Buy a different frame, transfer the parts and you're good to go.

That's called 'plan B'. No charge. ;

Sorry to hear about our situation.

Trek however is a great company that I had the pleasure of working for and had a good relationship with. On more than one occasion I contacted our inside rep and got a deal worked out on a new frame for a few customers in a similar but not identical situation. The frames were not free but from warranty as good faith crash replacements. Bring it in to your favorite Trek store (I would recommend a concept store since they normally have the best swing) and see if something can be done. Who know's maybe it will work out for the best.

Is this the bike?

If so, my sympathy is waning...

You tried to sell a used bike that had a strange noise when you bought it for a profit (a tidy one)...

Is that Karma?  Or does it not apply?  I'm no Buddhist so maybe I'm confused...

I'm starting to feel sorry for the bike.

The OP......
1. Saw a deal that was to good to be true
2. Greedily rushed the purchase
3. Failed to spot the defect, if there was one
4. Now, three months later he is publicly whining about it and wants us to shed a tear with him
5. Has posted this same info on both mtbr.com
Here's what I think.
Grow up, get some balls, fix your mistake and go ride

You forgot one.

He also tried to sell it here for a profit in May.

So, the real question is, had he already discovered the defect existed prior to this sale? Absent any comment from him, I suspect so.

That's just as bad if not worse than the prior sellers conduct.

Yeah that seems to be the gist of it.

Potentially shady + definitely shady = post complaining about the experience. (apparently)

I think we are being a little quick to judge and convict.  I understand why folks might suspect fishiness, but the OP did pull the ad himself.  He did admit the bike was ridden very little before he decided to sell it.  He did say he didn't notice it when he bought it so it may have taken a while to notice it.  We don't know what his original reasons for selling it were.  It could be because it was noisy, but he didn't realize that it was actually cracked.  who knows?  Maybe I'm just being optimistic, but seems unfair to judge.
