holy hell is populated by Charlotte a bunch of losers.  Saturday and Sunday it looked like a Monday in December out there.

I went early Saturday morning, and there were more bikers than I have ever seen. South Main was downright crowded in places with lots of group rides. I didn't check out how much activity there was at the beer garden and restaurant, and it was a little early for the zipliners and climbers to be out, but overall I was encouraged.

There was indeed a fair representative of mt bikers this weekend...  My observations were on the parking scene and activity around the center.  For most of this year Sat and Sun all three parking lots have been heavily utilized.   All festival days were packed from noon until 10PM.

There may have been a bit of traffic for the evening fireworks on Sat and Sun but I assure the center lost a lot of money this past weekend.

I was out there Sunday late afternoon and thru the evening.  The crowd was definitely lighter than normal in the afternoon for a festival/event.  But it really picked up later in the evening, as a LOT of people came out for the fireworks.  I can't remember it ever taking that long to get out of the WWC with that heavy of traffic.  It was certainly encouraging to see the great evening turn-out.

We went out Saturday night and Sunday night (for different reasons) and they had big crowds.

Big props to Jeff W. - he was working the parking lots directing traffic both on the way in and the way out on Sunday. I didn't expect to see the Director doing that - I thanked him for a really fun 4th celebration.

He was directing traffic/assisting with parking during the Green River Revival back in March too.  That was the busiest I'd ever seen that place!

So I went out for Concrete Jam last night, and was surprised by the crowd the was there, due to the weather being not the greatest at the beginning of the evening,  we did hit the trails and they were a bit slick.  I guess they want to keep them open a bit longer now days even if rain is in the area.
I did go ask about a season pass, and did ask if they were going to be discounted since there was no whitewater available....and they said no, the water will be on soon.

There was def a smaller crowd than normal,  So not as many $9 Hop Drop and Rolls being sold. I cant wait till the water gets fixed,....miss all the carnage at Big drop parties!

Was there a tornado or something at WWC this weekend?  I rode the CTT last night and I couldn't believe the amount of knocked over trees there were along the entire length.  There are a few trees across the trail and a lot of large down limbs.... they aren't all dead fall either.

Very heavy storms Friday night. Very windy. There were parts of Charlotte left without power all weekend. It just missed me in Gastonia, but I saw it off in the distance.

I was out there last night... they have 3 or 4 trash pumps sitting along the outside of the lower pond so that tells me that they are planning on draining the remainder of the water soon.  Then they have to power wash everything in the lower pond.

If they have to augment the filtration systems those would need to be designed and installed before they would refill the channel.

My estimate:
- 2-3 weeks to flush and power wash
- 4-6 weeks for filtration system enhancements if necessary
- 3 days to fill the channel

Best case is Mid-August worst case is March 2017

I've seen a few articles that indicated that the problem with the UV filtration was caused by turbitity in the water - IE too much dirt suspended in the water to allow the light to filter through and kill off the bacteria and ameboas. Have to wonder how much off that has been caused by the free climbing project by the lower pool. I've noticed a few times that there is a lot of dust flying from there when the wind kicks up. No idea if they feel it was a causal factor or not but it can't have helped. If they have been thinking along those lines the re-opening date may need to hold off till that is completed.

Perhaps this is known already but the last third of the CTT after you drop back into the woods there is a couple of downed trees blocking the trail and a few hanging badly.
It looks lie you could get past with a bit of effort but there are some really messed up trees that haven't hit the ground yet so be careful.

I'm really disappointed with the restaurant hours.  So many times we've ridden there & wanted to eat after & it's never open.  I'm talking 8 pm on a week night (not Thurs obviously).   First they told us it was too early in the season (before Memorial Day).  Said the restaurant stays open an hour after activities, so pre Memorial Day, activities 'til 7, restaurant 'til 8.  Now finally, activities are 'til 8, restaurant should be to 9.  But guess that only applies for water activities.

I know 6-8 mtn bikers who were planning to spend money on dinner (& beer) Tue night but had to go elsewhere.  Guess that revenue isn't important.  Sad

Many of us would actually like to avoid the Thurs night beer crowd and ride & eat on the other nights.

If it makes you feel any better, you'd be disappointed with the restaurant too. You pay exorbitant prices for a greasy burger that isn't cooked to order and potato salad that shouldn't be called potato salad. Those 6-8 cyclists dodged a bullet.

I had a huge cuban sandwich there on Tuesday night... $10 with a great potato salad. No complaints here. The only people there eating and drinking were mountain bikers as far as I could tell.

I've eaten at the restaurant many times.  No complaints with the food.  Just the evening hours.  Sad

I've mentioned to someone there before...  if you ride after work, that's typically 6-8 pm.  Sure would be nice to grab some food 8-9 pm.  Doesn't seem like much to ask, especially during the summer months.

This has been my biggest complaint since the days when Lindsey & Philip were the Restaurant managers.  They always keep the place open for the MtBikers to have a sandwich and a few beers.  For the past 2-3 summers the evening restaurant hrs have been pitiful at best.  Website says open to 9PM.... except for riverjam days and weekends it's never open past 8PM.  I really had hopes that the Biergarden/grill would stay open a bit later if the restaurant closed early.

It feels to me like the Mt Bikers are not part of their revenue plans.  This is a lost opportunity to increase the food and beverage revenue.

There could be informal weekday evening rides followed up by late hours for the restaurant.

They don't need a full staff to do it right.

Pretty OK showing of Mt Bikers tonight...  overall the crowd was similar to what you would have seen in 2009-2010.  Spread the word... these free concerts will not continue if they are not bringing in the people. The people who spend $9 on a Hop Drop and Roll.

Taco truck was running... I think the Pizza truck was open too... the way-back bar was open and the bier-garden was running with reasonable lines.  Didn't get to the restaurant but it looked to be available with no long lines.

Trails were prime...

Expensive beer but overall a fantastic facility...

Go spend some money and have a great time.

Newly released plan for treatment and discharge of the water in preparation for resuming white water activities. Looks like they'll be dumping at the discharge above the entrance to Figure 8? Can we hope to get a head's up if it's going to impact trails being open?
