Race fees

It seems like race fees have gone the way of rock shows and such. Expensive!!! As far as anyone knows, do elite racers or industry personal get special privileges at races and events. Or do they follow the same rules as if someone like me signed up?

up in NJ the Elite 1/2 CX races are now $45... talk about ouch! On top of a $75 USAC license.

If you are super fast sometimes a team/sponsor will cover your entry fee if you podium.

What race are you looking at specifically?

Not any in particular. But boy have they gotten pricey. I remember doing crits in a series for ten a race. Or doing a five race cross series for a discounted fee of forty. Nowadays even local races are$70-$100+.

Sorry I brought it up. I guess in a economy like I live in, some things become a bigger luxury.

I admit, there are a couple of "must do" races that are not on my must do list anymore for this reason.

But cars last well over 100,000 miles nowadays. The last event that I paid $70 for. The race promoters sister-in-law prepared the pasta dinner. Not even a professional caterer. You would think the expensive events would have better post race swag

I think I got you beat... raced Rudolphs Rampage last year - no real swag, no medals/trophies/certificates, and something I have caught hell about - they called winners by class to pick prizes and for some reason they decided to put a ladies medium TSHIRT out for mens 19-39... guess what I picked (6'2" 215lbs mind you).

I should totally race it again this year and wear that damn shirt (even though my gf has claimed it)

A race up by me before we moved gave away a piece of blue cardstock with the category you raced and the place you finished... That has to be one of the better ones right?

A race from a long time ago had a pez Despenser. A box of jiffy mix and a hat. It had a fairly cheap entry fee. I wonder if the races that start and end at Oskar Blues, give you bottomless beer

I did the TSE this year and made the podium on one stage. My prize was a girls tank top from their sunglass sponsor that I'd never heard of. I mentioned to the guy that it was a girl's tank top and he told me to just deal with it. That among other issues and the super high cost is why I won't be back, and why I don't really do any races any more. For the cash I ponied up to abuse myself at the TSE I could've had a Western Spirit type MTB vacation with gourmet meals and much less stress, which is what I'll do next time.
