USNWC Thread Trail Loop

The first phase of the Thread Trail Loop will be officially opened today.  I'm sure lots of people have found it over the last couple days and explored it, but we're going out today to install signage and begin to encourage the directionality of the new arrangement.

Definition of terms:  First half of Carolina Thread Trail = Figure 8 to Bridge (in powerline corridor).  Second half of Carolina Thread Trail = Bridge (in powerline corridor) to Belmeade Rd (far end of trail).

The new portion begins from Figure 8 and connects with the existing Thread Trail just before the bridge.  From that point riders can make a right and ride the second half of the CTT as an out-and-back, or make a left and return to Figure 8 via the original CTT corridor.
There are hopes to eventually loop the entire CTT, but the plans for the second half of the CTT loop are pending approval from the property owners and CMUD.

In simpler terms:  The first half of the CTT is now a directional trail, so no more worries about head-on collisions.

Thanks to the Trailblazers who came out and jump-started this project during our joint trailwork day during Cyclofest.  An amazing amount of work was done that day, and it put us on the fast-track to getting this trail opened quickly.

Great work! I love finishing a ride with thread trail, or taking my kid for a short lap out there. Can't wait to check it out.

Off topic but relating to USNWC...

Anyone know what happened to the newly constructed pavilion which was next to the bathrooms by the parking lot?

Exciting to hear Lee!  The Cyclofest workday was a great partnership, I'm looking forward to riding the new section of trail.

It burned. Read about the evils of smoking and why we can't have nice things here:

Bummer. I haven't been able to ride for the last month due to an injury (incurred at USNWC) and this was the first weekend I could ride at USNWC. Was shocked to see it completely gone.

I hit it yesterday, it's a bunch of fun. Got to sample the handiwork that we built on the new step down and rock jump. It's amazing how smooth and packed in it already is.

Rode it a few times b4 it was open... and a few times since...  IMO it's perfect.  However, I will forever miss the original out and back... (I loved the two way aspect... it was not a huge PITA for me)   Can't wait to see what they come up with on the 2nd half loop.

If you pay attention there is a huge ditch that starts on a right hand turn a little more than half way between the new start and the gravel road cross over...  I am not sure where it ends but it I think it ties in with the gravity cavity on Fig8.  Think of the possibilities  Cheesy
