Has anybody done a weekend trip there? I am considering either the Bike Farm or Mulberry Gap and I was wondering what your impressions/experiences were.

I have heard good things about the bike farm, but personally if you want to camp in Pisgah and have a tent find a good roadside spot and do it for free!

Bikefarm is awesome.  We have a yearly trip we started last year and have already booked there again.  We hit dupont on day one then pisgah day 2. Perfect location and Cashion the owner will hang and talk with you about trails over a beer.  There are trails into pisgah right from the farm also.  Great setup for a mountain biking/camping weekend.  The tents and sites are huge and have a shower right on your site. The glamping is big and comfy and if you have an extra person or 2 they can camp in their own tent on site.  Highly recommend for family or guys trip.

The Hub folks are opening a place called Pilots Cove. The cabins are pricey, but they are supposed open tent camping in the Fall. Also have their own trail from what I understand.

Camp and ride and Bent Creek,....just from my experience I would go there, Great camp spots and very clean restrooms and showers...and Dupont and Pisgah are about 30 min away.

I haven't had a chance to check out the Bike Farm yet, but I can tell you that Mulberry Gap is worth the trip.  If you want to show up and ride, grab a shower and eat a great meal and enjoy some beers, without the need to set up camp or cook, this is the place to do it.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a great camping trip as well, but there's something to be said for the cooking to be done for you and a bed to be ready and waiting.  All you need to bring is your bike, clothes and beverage of choice if you like, otherwise they sell a good selection of craft brews right there.

They offer a shuttle to the top of the mountain which will give you roughly a 18-20 mile ride of mostly down hill trails.  There is a stretch of trail on the Pinhoti Trail (P2), that you can go literally a mile without pedaling.

...did I mention there are hot tubs?

IMHO, you have to hit this place at least once.

If you love a tent and want to save a few bucks, you can camp there and still get in on the meals.  Ginnie, the head chef, puts out a great spread every meal.

As you can tell, I'm a big fan of this place.

Yeah, Mulberry gap looks pretty rad!!  The bikefarm is camping but the yurt/tent/glamping they provide is very comfortable with beds provided.  Definitely more of a camping feel but with a huge canvas tent with 4-5 beds in each tent. Probably 300-500 square feet in each one. Not exactly sure but was plenty of room for us.  The tents are set up on wooden platforms with great views.  They recently installed a pump track as well.  Very close to the hub and also oscar blues...not very far from sierra nevada also, so there's that.  Not a bad choice to make.  I now have mulberry gap on my radar for sure, they just had a maxxis corporate getaway event there last weekend looks like.

If you're looking for traditional car camping Davidson River is nice both for ammenities and access the pisgah trails that start by Lower Black (you can ride in easily from there).  It books up fast though and obviously you fight a lot of other campers.

I've stayed at Bike Farm once and it was a good experience.  Though (at least a year or so ago when i went) it pretty primative.  Either side of the gravel road sites or some you have to hike in a few hundred feet to get to (which is what we did).  There are no picnic tables or anything in most spots.  They were working on their own trail to get straight into Pisgah, but at the time i stayed there they weren't really recommending using it.

They let you camp at Oscar Blues Reeb ranch outside of Dupont too, but i think that's just setting up a tent in a big field.

I had a good experience with the Bike Farm last year. We camped in one of the deck spots. Its a bit more expensive than DRC and when we were there in May, the showers were out of commission. Other facilities are a bit primitive as well (porta johns). Still, I would definitely go back. I really liked the area and the camp spots. Its a lot more private than DRC and feels almost like back country comping.  I've ridden the trail in from there. It connects with Turkey Pen trail. It looked like they were still dialing the tail in. In places, I lost the trail and though I was going to have to bush wack. There was supposed to be another trail back off of Turkey Pen that was going to be a downhill back into the Bike Farm but, I never found it. I ended up intersecting Middle black and heading back down to lower black and smokers cove.

I've got a pretty large fifth wheel we camp with.  Anyone know any spots in the area to camp at.

We regularly camp at Black Forest, but didn't know if there were other options.

Thanks!

I believe Davidson river campground has RV sites. Adventure Village in Brevard has rv sites

I went to a mountain bike clinic and stayed at Mulberry Gap. I rode the Pinhoti trails and they were great. The only drawback to the place is that it is so far away from Charlotte. It took over 5 hrs to get there.
